I cant seem to get a floopy drive to work. I installed a floopy drive in a computer and tried to boot from it but I cant boot from it. When I boot from the C:\ and go to device manager, it's listed there with no problem. When I try to open the a:\ , I get a error message telling me to insert a floopy, but there is a floopy inserted already. In cmos i have boot floopy seek enabled. Can someone tell me how to get the floopy drive to work? And in case I did something wrong in cmos I even tried loading the setup default in cmos. I even bought a new floopy , but no luck.

try flipping the cable over. some drives don't have the red wire next to the power.

If the LED remains on during boot up, the ribbon cable is reversed. Take the cable off and turn it around. If the LED flashes when the power is turned on then goes out, the ribbon cable is connected properly. Loading the CMOS defaults changes everything in all pages, except Standard CMOS setup. Go there and check that the A: drive is set to 1.44 mb 3-1/2 inch drive...if it is set to anything other, it will not read a 1.44 diskette. Most floppy drive ribbon cables have 3 connectors, one goes to the mainboard, the middle connector is for the B: drive (if any) and the last connector furtherest from the mainboard is for the A: drive...there are some cable wires twisted between the B: connector and the A: connector..unlike an IDE cable...the floppy drive must be connected to the proper place on the ribbon cable..the twist tells the controller whether the drive will be an a: or a B: drive.
