Yeah, the servers will be busy when the US wakes up. I downloaded it @ 8:00 GMT this morning and was hitting ~50k Bytes/s, but I doubt if I tried now it would be as fast (15:15 GMT).
Pity any poor soul trying to d/l with a modem http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
By all accounts (from a UK BBS I frequent), it will make your G card squeal like a stuck pig. I'm going to try it out on my Win2K + Voodoo3-3000, so you'll hear it squealing from t'other side of the pond http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
If anyone's interested to read how folk are getting on with it, here's the UK thread:

Good news - I downloaded it last night at 300-500KB/sec!
Bad news - My little TNT2 scores a 1486. Ouch.

Good news -- I got it (love that cable modem!)
Bad news -- crashes at the third "Dragothic" test. I can run the first two tests but them BOOM! -- bummer. And the Mad Onion website is slow as molassas so can't find out if this is common. Oh well, I can wait.

On Win2k, the demo, Game 2, 3 and 4, and everything else run fine on mine, but my Radeon LE Crashes on the first truck racing test - LQ. I tryed Radeon LE hacked, and Radeon LE Unhacked, and it still crashes, also tried uninstalling drivers, and installing DX8.0a over DX8.0. Havent installed it on ME yet, but prolly will soon.
Download.com prolly has the least congested download, so take a shot over there.

Problem solved. 3DMark 2001 doesn't like my 145FSB. At 140FSB everything ok. My specs:
PIII 700@980 (140FSB)
Abit SE6, 512MB PC133 cas2
Asus 7100 GeForce MX2, Nvida 6.50 driver
3DMark 2001 at default (175/166) core/memory clock settings:
1024x768x32 - 1841
1024x768x16 - 2156
3DMark 2001 at 210 core/210 memory clock settings:
1024x768x32 - 2095
1024x768x16 - 2338
At core clock settings obove 210MHz 3DMark locked up, so 210MHz is it for me.
Can see that o/c'ing the video card improves performance substantially.

Im not happy with the new appearance, looks like they rushed it or something, ran 2 machines on it this morn:
T-bird @1050 and stock Prophet MX result was 2444...
T-bird @1275 with Radeon 64DDR was 3409 at default settings...

Well KOP they needed to have it ready in time to tell you that you now need a G-Force3. In all seriousness 2000 looked much better and I didnt like how kicked my refresh rate down.

Downloading it at the moment at 50k/sec - 60k/sec, so that's alright. Seems like the scores really dropped heaps and requires a lot more memory bandwidth! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif My poor old GeForce2 MX ain't gonna get a high score nemore http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif I'll post my score as soon as I run it!

Downloaded and ran it just now and am disappointed in my score. I got a 2211. My system specs are:
Intel PIII 750 Slot 1 running at 1000Mhz.
Abit BE6 II mobo, FSB at 133 Mhz
320 Megs Muskin PC 133, Rev 2, at cas 222
Asus V7700 32Meg GeForce 2 GTS Pure
Asus engine at 220 & memory at 364
I expected to do much better. Maybe I am not very well tweaked.
System runs well and very stable. Tends to lock up occasionally at higher bus speeds.

It still largely depends on your OS, now that I got Windows 2000, looks like my score is gonna really drop!

Wilan, did you have probs installing under 2K??
I cannot install because of some DirectX error (that I cannot remember off the top of my head).
I'm running 2000+SP1+Latest DirectX for W2K.
Anyone run the program on a Voodoo3-3000??
Wilan Wong
03-15-2001, 02:44 AM
Nope, I didn't have any problems with installing it on Windows 2000. I had this error, so I had to be admin to install it. I ran the benchmark and I got such a low score! I got 741 3DMarks! Default Resolution, 1024x768x32.
System Spec:
Athlon 700, 128Mb RAM, TNT2 M64 (LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif) running Windows 2000 on 20gb Western Digital ATA/100 Drive.

To be more specific.. I got the following frames per sec for each demo..
Game 1 - Car Chase - Low Detail: 14.3fps
Game 1 - Car Chase - High Detail: 5.6fps
Game 2 - Dragothic - Low Detail: 11.2fps
Game 2 - Dragothic - High Detail: 5.8fps
Game 3 - Lobby - Low Detail: 11.3fps
Game 3 - Lobby - High Detail: 7.3fps
Look at those fps.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I'm gonna try it with my other computer (800 Duron and geforce2 mx) later.. Has anyone got a lower score than that??

Hmmmmm..... Mebbe I'll have another go when I've got more time to play.
Good to know it'll run under 2K - anyone running it on a Voodoo3-3000??

This benchmark made my system hurt compared to the 2000 version! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
My final score was a lowly 1258.
Athlon 700Mhz @ 800Mhz
256MB PC100
MSI K7-Pro
Voodoo5 5500
2-45GB IBM DeskStar 7200RPM in RAID 1

ARGH!!! I'm almost to embarrased to post my score.... i honestly can't believe them?!?!?!
System:
Sharptooth 448 (4x112, K6-!!!)
192 MB Apacer PC100 @ 112
Marvel G400, 16 MB AGP x2
Epox G2, 1meg, newest bios
Well... i scored... 618... anybody lower?
Is there something wrong here?, The G400 is suppossed to be as powerful a a TNT2, but it sure isn't. In the old 3dmark programs i usually scored a lot higher than similar 'puters. could it be because it skipped some of the test due to "no hardware support"?
The test the ran best, was the bump-mapping scene - the wierd guy in the cool chair - it both ran, and looked good.
Maybe i should do a little tweaking, reboot, and then try again.. (btw, tests were run in 640x480x16)

Yeah, its too bad that Mad Onion didn't set the scoring to be comparable to the 2000 version. After working my way up to 5100 on 3D Mark 2000 its discouraging to see a score of 2338 on the 2001 version. A number is just a number so they could have made it anything.
Still I'm amazed to see such low numbers as reported here. Wiruz's G400 is not, of course, a speed demon to begin with but 618 seems awfully low. Oh well, that's what tweaking is for http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Of course, you can do what I did Wiruz, trade in the G400 for a GeForce MX2. I know the purists say that the Matrox cards have better graphics but frankly I can't see any diff. I don't know whether its my eyes or my monitor, but bottom line is that if the MX2 and G400 look the same to me I might as well be using the faster card.

3D Mark 2001 - score of 349!!!
3D Mark 2000 - score of 1140
system Specs:
K6-3+ 450@616
320 MB PC133 ram
EPOX MVP3G2 board
And finally CL PCI Savage4 32 MB
Win2K PRO SP1, DX8a
So can any one better my scores...of course from bottom up LOL

My new video card, ASUS GF2 GTS 32 DDR, came before the mobo and CPU, ASUS cusl2-c & PIII 1Ghz, so I put it in my old system, PIII 450@558, my score was 1055, default settings.
Krusty, I'll put my Voodoo3 back in and see it if works, but I don't believe it will. The system specs are at least a 32 MB video card.
Wiruz, the reason it is probably so slow is your processor. I know mine is holding me back quite a bit right now.
LK
I just dl'ed it last night and ran it at the default 1024x768x32. Here's my system specs:
Duron 600 @ 900
Abit KT7
256MB PC133
Leadtek Winfast GF2MX (not overclocked)
My score: 2056

Little King> Yeah, it hink so to, though the Sharptooth is a great gaming cpu (one year ago), it fails when all the special features in 3D mark has to be done by software...
Tom Pico> Trade my G400? U Inzane?, It's a Marvel... (lots of TV In/Out features i can't live without...)
I did the test after working with the 'puter for a few hours, i just closed down all the progz that would steal cpu cycles (RC5, FTP Server, ICQ, Audio Galaxy Satelite)
I'll tweak i little, and hopefully get a little higher score next time...

Hey Krusty, I finally got to try my Voodoo3, and it did work, however it was pretty slow. 640x480 = 998 (PIII 450@558). BTW I am running Win2K.

I only got 1400 3DMarks on 3DMark2001 using default resolution. With Duron 800, 256Mb RAM, GeForce2 MX 175/166, 20gb WD 7200RPM Drive, running Windows 2000 + SP1. Think Windows 2000 gets low scores on it. I'll try it with 98 or ME.
jad1097
03-17-2001, 12:27 AM
Let me know what you get in ME or 98 because your score and some others are really bad.
I got a 1552 with a Duron 700@866 256MB pc133 crucil micron and a TNT2 v770 in Win ME.

I just got a 1490 in W2K no SP1 everything is at default other than running my TNT2 @150/183 and the BIOS tweaks.
As you can see the score is not much lower than my WinME score (62 points) so it is not the OS. I am using the 1040 det. drivers in W2K.

Just ran it with my very unoptimized G400MAX - I don't even have Matrox updated drivers installed yet; using default W2K drivers.
1771 3d Marks.
1.2G TBird 'C'
512MB Mushkin Rev 2 PC133
Abit KT7A
Oh, and I didn't have hardware support for: Nature, DOT3 Bump Map, Pixel Shader.

Socalgal,
There is an explaination of why the Nature scene and the pixel shader won't work (unless you somehow have a GeForce3) in the benchmark portion of 3DMark2001.
Here's the URL for you...
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/004700.html
Thanks for the explaination RobRich!
