I've just installed Windows Media Player 7 and has been unable to play media files in my pc since. Everytime I tried to open a file I'll got the "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" with detail saying "WMPLAYER caused an invalid page fault in module MMSWITCH.AX at 015f:1d1c4e86". I can open some of the files in Real but not all of them, or I'll get the same problem too. What should I do?

Welcome to Sysopt! :t

The mmswitch.ax is Morgan Stream Switcher, which is causing problems. Perhaps you got it from the Nimo Codec Pack. However you got it, you can get rid of the problem file. It is likely in your windows\system folder, since that's where the filters and codecs for media files mostly reside.

Type the following at a command prompt in the windows\system folder:
regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax
del mmswitch.ax

Thank you so much omega, for both your help and the warm welcome!
I did get the file from Nimo Codec Pack indeed, whist trying to open some video files. It seems that things are running smoothly right now.
Have a nice day!
