I just got my new T-bird 1.2gig/266FSB system up and running and this is what computing is really supposed to be!!!
Now programs and web pages load almost instantly when run them, Norton Speed Disk races at breakneck speed doing a defrag and with my Radeon 64 meg DDR video card my racing games are finally smooth enough to enjoy playing now.
One thing I noticed is that the CPU temp was running @60C with Seti@Home running all the time... shut it off and temp dropped to 53C.

For anyone interested who is overclocking their CPU, having Seti or any other computational program running full time, if heat is a problem for you this may be a contributing factor, I've decided that a cooler CPU is more important to me than advancing the frontiers of science, so Seti got uninstalled..
On another note, I've read of others having problems with the Promise ATA 100 controller on the Asus A7V KT133A, but I've got two WD 20.5 ATA 100 drives on my Promise controller (no Raid setup) and according to the Norton benchmarks my drives have almost doubled in speed when compared to the ATA 66 setup I had before; the memory benchmark in SiSandra 2001 shows a value of 22500.
Until I unleashed this speed demon system, I never realized how slow my Athlon 700 system with a GeForce 2 GTS card really was... don't mind me, I'm just happy playing with my new toy and not bragging. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Go, man! With all the griping and problems we read about here, it's a pure delight to hear someone who is genuinely happy !!!

Well daverme, after reading socalgal's benchmark posting in the Overclocking section for the past few days it was nice to see if I could get the same results from my new computer when it was finally done.

Right now I have a grin on my face that you couldn't get rid of with dynamite, I'm that happy with my new toy.

I was sort of wondering if anyone else came to the conclusion that having these ultra-fast CPUs running at 100% load while running Seti and other programs of that sort, would put an unnecessary heat load on a CPU that would require additional cooling to be added or else reduce the service life of the CPU.

Considering that the faster CPUs go, the more likely that heat becomes an issue, isn't this something that should be taken into account when deciding how a CPU should be operated?

Just think, in 6 months this set up will be obsolete and I can start dreaming of the next upgrade... and there is always a next upgrade isn't there? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
