I just put together a new computer. It has a FIC AZ11E motherboard, a 40x cdrom drive and a 12/10/32 cdrw. In both drives, it takes about 15 minutes to copy a full cd to my hard drive. The cdrw should write at 12x, but every 10 seconds the buffer goes down to 1%, and it stops to rebuffer. Does anyone know what would cause my cd drives to run so slowly?

Sounds like an IDE config problem. What are the drive set as on each channel? If the CDRW is slave to HD, you may be getting the Buffer prob due to the HD bogarting the IDE channel. I run SCSI burners, so other's may be of more hope...

Try this :
Primary Master : HD
Secondary Master : CDRW
Secondary Slave : CD-ROM

Besides, what burning soft do you use ? Nero and Adaptec's Easy CD creator are among the best ...

Best Regards ...

My drives where on a

Primary Master : HD
Secondary Master : CD-ROM
Secondary Slave : CDRW

cofiguration. I changed it to

Primary Master : HD
Secondary Master : CDRW
Secondary Slave : CD-ROM

as you suggested with the same results. I am using adaptec easy cd creator 4. Any other ideas?

Just a thought
Adjust the speed
I once had to use another cdrom as the speed was not desireable to the writer
