I aquired a 386 laptop in a purchase I made. It has no OS at all, allong with no cd-rom. Wondering if there is a way to get an OS on this thing.

There is no way Windows 95 or 98 will run on a 386 so you are limited to Windows 3.1 which came on 6 disks or some flavor of Linux.

You're limited to DOS and Windows 3.x.

Stick to DOS and stick with old business applications or good old DOS games! As AllGamer says, All hail the mighty DOS!

Check ebay.com for an external CDROM drive.

LOL, thanks optic_pro1430 :t

couldn't have put it better

but yes, besides DOS and Win3.11
you can load Win95 on it, it might be slower than Win3.11 but will definitely take advantage of the APM features and PCMCIA features of the laptop with Win95 than Win3.11

if you have and old copy of Win95 handy then put it on, else get

Dr.DOS 7.03 that comes with networking features

and you can throw in Win3.11 on top

or!!

GO linux, LINUX is perfect for this case

:D :t

linux schminux - this guy's just trying to use an old laptop :D
and I'll bet he can do w95 and Office95 (both dirt cheap)

I've had loads of fun loading w98 and wME on obsolete systems - never know until you try :t
