Ok which of these 2 chips would be faster..
I have the P3 1.0ghz coppermine but thinking about getting a 1.4ghz celeron (giving p3 to sister)
Which one would be faster (how much)... also i will overclock the 1.4ghz celeron..:t

Any opinions?

I vote Celeron. That 400 mhz. and whatever OC you get probably better than the p3 at 1ghz. The Tulatin celeron was pretty decent chip wasn't it. Quite similar to a p3. Is the 1.4 you have the Tulatin?
I'm just speaking from memory here, don't have hard data to back up my opinion. I jumper from a Celeron 566 (oc to 850) running on an old BX board right to a new Athlon xp. I missed all those intervening Intel chips.
But one question: you sure the 1.4 celeron will even fit the motherboard you have a coppermine running in.

That 1.4GHz celeron will work in your motherboard. I don't know how much of a noticeable improvement it will be though, because it has a 100 FSB and I'm certain your coppermine has a 133FSB. A better upgrade would be to a 1.4GHz Pentium III-s, which has twice the L2 cache of your current P3 and a 133FSB. You'll need the adapter mentioned here though (unless your motherboard is tualatin certified):

And all socket 370 CPUs > 1.13 GHz are tualatins:
Celeron T=100FSB + disabled prefetch logic + 256KB L2
PIII T=133FSB + enabled prefetch logic + 256KB L2
PIII-S T=133FSB + enabled prefetch logic + 512KB L2 + (added circuitry for SMP operation?) - designed for a server but will work in a desktop mobo as well.

I have a Asus Tusl2 so the tualatins work fine in my motherboard..:)

Yep, you pay premiums for server CPUs, even though the Pentium III is supposed to be "discontinued" by intel soon... does that mean they will logically lower the price?
Of course not.
Why would they?
I mean it's intel inside, that little badge sticker costs a lot to make. :D
