I recently filled up my 13 gig IBM HD on my BP6 dual celeron system. I bought a new 45 gig IBM to replace it. Problem is that any time the new HD is in the system it randomly locks up. I have had the machine on 24-7 with the old set up for months without a single lockup. With the new drive installed it locks up about every thirty minutes. It locks up when trying to install windows, while loading windows, and while using windows and in different programs. I just unhooked the drive and now all is fine again. I have no idea what the problem is. Can anybody help me out here?

How powerful is your power supply. It is possible that you are draining the PS. Is it possible that the hdd is causing a large increase in case temps as well? Just a thought ont he second idea though.

Thanks for the ideas. It turned out to be the POS highpoint controller on the mobo. I did some reading and they are known to have problems with large drives. I simply connected the drives to the standard ide port and have had no problems. I am sure I will lose some performance, but it is much better than locking up.
