Hi On an NT4 Server with a HP Laserjet 4 plus printer connected to the local port LPT1 when I try and print I get a message " Error writing to LPT1 for document....... The network path was not found. Do you wish to retry or cancel the job" The network had been hit by the bugbear virus a short time ago but it is not infected now. I have tried removing the printer and reinstalling it with the latest drivers from the HP website but it did not make any difference. Any Ideas. Thanks Glenn

that's totally normal and to be expected
it means that the Printer server has gone bad

is not your computers fault, they might just have turned off the printer

the ANNOYING VIRUS, send PRINT JOBS NON stop to the printer

here's more info

Hi Glenn and everyone,

I have a similar problem with several computers at work - came here to see if anyone else has had a similar problem and found a fix in the wake of Bugbear. Here's what I have:

Two different operating systems (Win95, Win2k) running a local printer via parallel port on the machine. Each of them has the printer (they're all HP, btw) shared. When bugbear hit they of course printed garbage...

Now, occasionally (and getting worse) the people printing to these printers get an error which says basically "unable to print, please try the following three options to fix it" yadda yadda.

I literally had one in front of me this morning which refused to print a document...then 1 minute later printed it fine...then about 1 minute later refused to print again. Same document, same printer. This is happening both from the computer that the printer is connected to, and from other machines which print via the share.

To really confuse the issue, I have another Win2k pro machine which was turned on but nobody was logged into (the owner was away on leave at the time so it was only on for printing purposes). That one also printed garbage...but...that particular user has no printing problems at all. (I'm wondering if a .dll has been corrupted somewhere.)

What I've tried:

I've tried removing the printer drivers and reinstalling...same problem.

I've tried updating the drivers with the latest drivers from HP...same problem.

I've tried removing the printer drivers and then reinstalling with the latest drivers from HP...same problem.

I'm wondering if there is any means of reinstalling just the printer .dll's and similar parts of the OS on the computers as a next try (I haven't a clue how) or if anyone else has run into this and found a fix. I'd much rather not have to reinstall Windows on the 10-odd affected PCs.

Thanks,

Yardiff
