SysOpt has a tendency to give one more free time because it provides the answers to that eternal question, "why?". Once you know why, you'll have to go get a life! :(
I suggest a course in household waterworks. It beats waiting for a darned plumber!

oh quit bad mouthing us! LOL
so what you got against us? we charge an arm and a leg?
I admit alot of them do, that's why I learned to charge a reasonable price for the job, never by the hour, and if you have nice prices and are reasonable, you will be getting keeping those customers that you have and get some more :)

Granted, but what about the claimed 24/7 service?

I keep that too if it's an emergency.
like if the faucet is dripping pretty good, I'll give you a recipt that you can send a copy to your water department with your bill and you'll only pay the lowest bill you had that year or the median.
a stopped up sewer, I'll tell you to take out the cleanout and wait for me in the morning, sh*t going out of it won't bother me, I'll just get a shovel throw some dirt on it, and some bleach.
now if a water pipe blows, I'll be over there :) but then again, can you shut the water off? And can you get up at 6 am for me to be there? :)
now alot of my clients trust me, so they'll leave a key hidden somewhere for me to get in, and I have some clients that I have keys to their homes, and to their rent houses.
so on emergencies, I do make 24/7 calls, but oh-boy, those can be costly. about half or double the cost :) but then again, is it life threatening? :)
same thing for electrical, I am also an electrician. :)

I'm impressed.
Blown 3/4 PVC water main this side of the meter. Heavy clay soil - 3 feet down. Nightmare bends in current pipe due to builder's routing mistakes. Need water. I stink!

You SHOULD know how to solder since all techies had soldered some electronics before.
I am going to tell you how to change the plumbing yourself since it's BEST becuase you have PVC,,, pvc sucks, one part breaks, all of it breaks. Copper is better. :)
you will need the following
shovels, and help on digging :D, A weekend or friday after five PM because the inspectors are out after that and no one on the weekends :)
You will need 95/5 Solder, 95% Tin 5% Antimony, you use 50/50 which is half lead and half tin, and you will violate the codes and poison the ones living in your residence.
you will need a blow torch, you can get one in a kid for about 20 bucks at home depot or lowes(shudder,, lowes) it will include a propane tank and some solder, paste, and a brush with some sand paper. i however use the following.
craftsman cool handle self igniting torch, it's about 30 bucks for another brand, this one is special because the tip doesn't heat up.
Mapp Gas,, it burns hotter and it's faster to weld with than regular propane, comes in a yellow cylinder than a blue one that is propane.
Oatey 95/5 solder doesn't have to be oatey, as long as it's 95\5 don't sound like you don't know anything because the'll won't give you a discount, it's a secret among alot of plumbing stores :D
if you go to a plumbing department, they will sell you this stuff for sure.
Get some Sand paper, it should be Purple, but if you get the blue one / it's water proof, it's a whole lot better because you can use it when wet.
make sure you have enough couplings, that you have a copper female adaptor for the water meter, and a pvc female adapter along with a copper male adaptor and enough copper piping, 3/4" minimum.
For the paste get one called C-Flux it's te best, doesn't smoke like the others, and it's a White Paste with gray particles on it (tin). And a brush or too, just tell them to also give you a brush or too, they'll give you the right thing.
you know how to dig, so dig from your water meter, following the pipe to the side of your house if you find that there is copper coming out of the concrete (since I know it's a fairly new house because they have pvc from the meter to side of hous,e and then copper under the slab) just put a copper coupling on it, and if it's pvc, then you'll need to get some PVC Primer, and some PVC Cement, Primer should be in a purple can, and the Cement in a brown can, liquid should be clear on cement, and purple on primer. if you get a blue cement, then you paid too much because it dries slower and it's for underwater use :).
well, just dig and replace the line.
if you want to repair it, then it looks like you just broke it off at one point, from the meter.
either you ran over it with your car or someone else did with theirs, or just happened out of the blue.
then you will need the pvc cement, the primer and Dig.
if you see that it's a clean cut, or just broken off at one point, you're in luck.
dig enough to uncover it about four inches from each side and cut at about two to three inches from each side from the break.
get two couplings and a piece of PVC pipe that is pre cut to the right lengs, and prime both ends as well as the ends of the bursted pipe, add cement to the four ends, and couplings, and slide everything in place. and hold it for a bit and lightly twist and see if it get feels a bit hard to turn while you are turning it.
Honestly, for me I wold only spend less than 5 bucks worth of material, and charge you about 150-175 because of the deep dig, otherwise if it was a foot, then it would of been aout 75 to begin with.
And for replacing the line it's kinda cheap too, copper is better than pvc, but it's more expensive about 7bucks per ten feet of 3/4 copper, Type Red M, which is thinner than Type B M which is thicker than a penny's edge :).
you'r pick, and tell me if it helps what I told you and if you are going to do this :)

I know a bit about plumbing myself so if you need any other advice bi polar bill, just let me know,, although, jgimene was quite thorough.. I was a plumber for about a year.. is it the black pipe comming into the house,, if so then you just need an adapter that you screw into the copper female adapter,, that goes to the meter.. if it is a meter if it's' this type of setup, you prob. have well water.. :)

I know where the water's coming from! :p It's the City of Houston! :x
I'm in the deep south now, Tranka. It's very different. There is a meter in the ground at the curb. PVC pipes run from the house out to the meter, but they run under the neighbor's driveway. The builder's plumber blew it and had to run all sorts of twists and turns to bring it out from under the driveway and over to the meter. Rube Goldberg couldn't have done a more twisted job! One of the 90 degree fittings busted. :(
It's fixed now - $300 later.

**** Bill, that's a quite bite :(
and Tranka,,, I'm a master plumber and I have been doing plumbing for about fifteen years :)
And black pipe wasn't installed back then, it was galvanized pipingl.
Bill said that he had PVC, and ****, twists and bends? Didn't that plumber know what to do? or maybe he took the easy way out, and I bet it's a new house too.
Anyways, glad you showered because of the wind blowing up, I started to smell ya up here :D

sorry to say, he was a fool. And that he should of gone there earlier since it is an emergency.
here is what I would of done, and the pic does have a message on. And if they didn't supply you with a water cut off valve in a box near your water hose valve. then I would of dug around your water hose, and followed that since it's easier, and just draw a straight line down, and then accross the water meter, and find the end that is going under neath the driveway, and just do a straight connection.
:)

What's a meter? I've been on catchment for so long I forget what they look like. As for plumbing, I have a pipe wrench but I keep it hidden and never tell anyone I have it, especially my wife. I hate plumbing. As for plumbers, anyone can be a plumber, all you need to know is s**t runs down hill and payday is on friaday. :p

Yep, I was a plumber since I was five years old. My pop's is a plumber and an electrician, and took me with him teaching me what he knew :) I am soo glad that he did too!
I would give him fittings, tools and he would teach me the history of plumbing, and I would pay attention and learn what he thought his little grasshoppa. I started welding when I was eight started doing my own electrical fixtures when I was nine, I would wire a house when I was ten and I would also do my own repairs when I was seven. When I was ten, I made blueprints for houses and did them :)

ROFLMAO!!!
But you still have to know what you are doing. I've seen people use black pipe for water pipes and then they wonder why they burst later that year. Or why their sink doesn't drain right because they thought that the drain pipe should of been leveled or as of why there is a syphon effect on it because they inclined it too much.
Or how about the ones who don't sand their fittings and then solder them and wonder why they have leaks everywhere, of howcome their comodes leak water due to the fact that they don't have a wax ring on it, or didn't install one right.
Or the ones who think that pipe thread compound wasn't needed and wonders why there was a funny smell in the house and then the house landed on the moon :)
Plumbing is simple as long as you're willing to learn.

I get your point Bill, some stupid mexicans where too lazy to actually cut the pipe short and instead put 90 degree bends in it,, but then again,, that's more work than cutting the **** pipe, LOL.
Glad you got it fix, too bad they had to tear down the concrete.

lmao, dude, I'm a mexican.
Hmm,, being racist against my race. hmmmm... I think not.
I just admit that there are some mexicans that can be stupid or too lazy to do something right like there is in any other race.
and if you read the other posts you would of seen that Bill said that there where mexicans who did the water line, so I was directing it to the stupid mexicans who did the line wrong.
So if you got offended it wasn't my fault because I am not racist.

LMAO Ukelele. It's kinda stupid because it's something so simple to do, that they were real lazy to acutally do it right. A hafl-assed job is what they did.

An old friend, now a lawyer told me a tale of having to call a plumber late at night for a fast leaking pipe in the basement. The plumber spent about 5 or 10 minutes downstairs before emerging to announce his success and made out his invoice.
"Seventy-five dollars?" my friend said, in disbelief, "I'm a lawyer and I don't charge that much", to which the plumber replied,"Well, when I was a lawyer I didn't charge that much either".

hahahahaha. Yep, you guys gotta think that we charge not only for what we know, but for how good of a job we do, and what is of what we do. Just like in computers, you aren't going to charge five bucks to put one together. You'll charge more.
Besides, I know a lawyer that talking to him will just cost you 200 smackers.
