It's a home system and I have my cable modem feeding into a hub and 5 PC's cabled back to the hub. I do not have a router. I was wondering if there was a simpler way. BipolarBill 10-10-2002, 04:37 PM The router won't help anyway. It broadcasts it's own IP instead of yours. What's your concern? You're really not "broadcasting" anyway. Your IP is embedded in all requests from you to another no matter what you do. Otherwise, the data wouldn't ever return to you. In other words, you can't hide. A router can shield you since it is all they will see outside. The router knows that you requested the data and forwards it to your PC. You can't be see or attacked directly. Nope, there is no way to do it.... I had some idiot call in about a month ago and ask me about that very thing.....said they were very concerned about it.....LOL Everyone on the Internet has an IP address and all of them can be seen....Except those machines behind routers then the routers IP address is broadcast......not a big deal...... Check this out: http://www.inetprivacy.com/a4proxy/awards.htm Nope, you still have to broadcast an IP address to have internet access... You have to send out to recieve and there is noway around that..if you cut the send out then you don't have an internet connection...which means you aren't going anywhere.... SysOpt.com
