What is the difference between a k6-2 processor and a k6-3 processor. I am running a k6-3 400MHz in an ASUS P5A and I would like to try overclocking it but I am unsure if the k6-3 will handle it. Thanks for the info in advance.

The k6-3 has an extra 256k L2 cache built onto the chip. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same.

If you really want an overclocker, you should get a K6-3+.

Doh! I just went to the AMD site. Their URL is too long or something.

The K6-3+ (and K6-2+) were socket 7 cpus made for laptops. If you have the right voltage and bios support, you can run these on a desktop just fine. Here's some info:

Hmmm. Just read my own link. Doesn't look like the P5A works too well with the "+" series, so forget I mentioned it.

Due to a hardware problem, P5A Rev 1.05 and 1.06 will work extremely slow with a K6plus CPU.
