We find that we were watching a movie for the first time and then the movie would pause by itself always on the same spots in the movie. We then have to right click the movie and hit play.
What causes that?
Playing DVD movies on a computer isn't an exact science. You may have to upgrade the DVD player.
I used to have the same problem with some DVDs, especially those in the $6.99 bargain bin!
I presently have two DVD players loaded in my computer. The ATI player, which I upgraded three times, will play what I have. Power DVD 3.0 won't play my cheap Kung Fu flicks. They freeze up the system.

I believe that scratches & nicks are causing the pauses because they seem to happen at the same point in the movie.

You may also want to check and see if the DVD is dual layer. I know that if DVD's are this way...and a lot are, you will get a slight pause at some point during playback of the movie.
I've noticed it on my Sony DVD player when watching some movies (Gladiator/Gone In 60 Seconds).

Tincup, how can you tell if a DVD is dual layer?

It will say it right on the back of the DVD. You have to kind of look for it...becasue sometimes it is in really small print.

ablang, you're not by yourself. The same thing's happened to me...at the exact same spot in the movie everytime(about an hour into it). This was one I rented from the video store. I have another that I bought and plays like a charm. Can't figure it out, except to say with all the players in this dvd game, it'sa wonder anyone can play anything with any consistancy.

What we did was call back Blockbuster and told them about the pausing. They told us to come back in and exchange it for a different one (same title). We found that it didn't pause anymore, so maybe the scratches were it!
I wonder though, if scratches affect regular DVD players (not DVD-ROM drives) the same way, or is it just ignored?
