I have a K7VAT m/b with an 850 mhz Athlon, 384mb ram and an Inno 3D Geoforce 2 64mb gfx card.
When I try and install XP on this system it hangs early on in the setup. The point it hangs is when it says Starting Windows.... in the bottom bar, just before it copies the setup files from the cd.
I have tried swapping memory and removed all extra boards, and tried a lot of bios settings to no avail. Has anyone out there got xp running on a K7VAT lucky star m/b or on an Inno3d geo 2 ?
Any help gratefully appreciated. :t

What happens if you copied the contents of the i386 folder off the CD and did the entire install from your hard drive?

I had this same exact problem with an Abit KT7a-Raid motherboard and the only way I got around it was to move the hard drive to another machine and load XP on then move it back right after the install. Oh if this board has Raid on it install the raid driver before you move it back.

I`ve tried dumping i386 folder on already, made no difference though.
At what stage of the XP install do you swap the drive over Speedo ?

Have a look at this User Review (http://www.sysopt.com/userreviews/mboards/reviewhtml/Lucky_Star_K7VAT.html), It seems you may need to upgrade your power supply unit.

Is it an MX geforce card??
If so there is an issue with win Xp and certain BIOSES on MX chips which causes a black screen hang at the first reboot during installation...
...hang on see if i can find the MSKB article....

 All up and running on xp now, yeah it was my card, I swapped it for voodoo 3 and installed perfectly. I then restarted, popped out the voodoo 3 and put in my geo 2 and hey presto xp loaded , didnt even find new hardware just all up and running :)
Figured it out when I saw the screen briefly fliker on my other pc at that stage cus it was changing resolution / refresh rate. Tnx for the tips tho :D

Oh just incase anyone else having probs installing xp other problems I found on other pc`s was mainly incompatible memory chips, even though both were 66mhz chips it still had problems on the install but runs fine if you put them in once youve got xp setup . Only other problem I had was xp locking up on autoboot cd`s and that was just an old cd rom drive goetting flaky .
