Between my usb 2.0 and usb 1.1 I have 9 usb ports. I had 6 of them filled. Recently my mouse quits functioning at random intervals. I unplug it and plug it back in and it works fine. Even replaced it with another one and same thing. I unplugged a couple of game pads and now I don't have any problems. I there a power draw problem and can it be rectified or am I off base? Thanks.

The more unpowered (externally) USB devices you add, the more power problems you'll experience. There's a 500mA limit per root hub. Put a printer and the mouse on the native port and the rest on the card and you should be OK.

There's only one external hub that I can safely recommend judging by my testing. Luckily they are cheap as dirt.

Sam's Club sells them. The in-store package has both hubs for about $27. They are excellent.
Frankly, I'd rather see him get a USB 2.0 adapter card.

Thanks for all the chat. I do have an externally powered hub, not the one Bill talks about. It's the one that the problems arise from.
I also have a 2.0 adapter card.
Maybe the hub is going bad? Worth checking out
Thanks again
