Towards the end of Unreal Tournament 2003 cd1 install, i get a critical error window to the effect:
"Unable to read ...\tutorialsounds.uax.(Successfully Completed.) If
installing using CD, CD may be damaged or cdrom needs cleaning bla bla."
CD2 wont continue install, checked just to be sure.Well i tried different
cd's, different cdrom's, and different copies of CD1 that i d\l elsewhere.
Same result. My theory is that the latest programming have outpaced the capacity of my mobo
and\or BIOS. Madden 2003 installed, but wont run, giving a diff but similar
bs error message. Award says i have latest BIOS for my board. bios date 10-07-2000.
obscure board, upgrade will never happen.
I just wanted an opinion of my theory from one of you sly programmers in
what is an obvious conspiracy agaist me. :( Below is my system specs. if anyone can tell me more about this mobo, please do. Procomp doesnt list it, and Tiger direct is no help. I think it may be really one of M7VKA, M7VKB, M7VKD or BVK2A with tiger direct just changing the name and adding a sticker to mobo. if so, and no changes were made, bios upgrades are available.

Nope

it simply states that that Sound file was not Read properly

mostlikely due a scratch or dirty finger prints on the CD :t

The cd lazer lense could be dirty. I would also pull the PC100 ram. Win98 does not like more then 512mb ram without a registry hack.

I have both cdrw and a cdrom, ran a cleaner through both, and have tried using diff sets of cd's. Will pull the PC100 RAM an see if i notice any overall improvement.

It could be a bad disk... I have a CDRW drive and a DVD drive in my system, and when I tried to install UT2k3, the CDRW drive wasn't even able to read the CD, the DVD drive was able to, (odd because its usually my CDRW drive thats able to read disks that my DVD drive can't) but very slow, all the other disks worked fine, except for disk 1... So i'm going back to Fry's tomorrow to get it exchanged.

You should also check whether you have the most up-to-date chipset drivers. You might be experiencing a legacy Via problem that may have been addressed by new drivers.

Do you have the original program CD's, or is this a warez problem?

as to the chip set drivers, with the older mobo that i have, i'm very leery of d\l new drivers that i really dont understand how they may or may not pertain to my particular system. Quite paranoid to find out that I fried my system cause of improper drivers.
And ...uh yeah, these are warez discs.:(
