Just did:
From the Article:
To me, WinMe is a bean counter's OS, designed to keep Microsoft's revenue stream alive between major OS releases.
Pretty much sums it up.

I hate to burst everyones bubble...
If you were Bill Gates with a MAJOR corporation (lots of $$$) What would you do?
Do ANYTHING you could to get MORE money..
Releasing another OS no matter how crappy...Even between major program releases seems like a smart move...Knowing people will buy it regardless..
That's just my opinion though http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't know about you guys but I run Win98 with all the updates, and it runs rock solid for months now. If some goes wrong 99% time it's whatever I installed prior to it crashing that caused the trouble. Why waste your money on something that could potentially be a problem.

Hey the people that flock to the stores to buy the latest "technology" are the reason Bill Gates comes out with an operating system every couple years. People should have to take a test to prove they have outgrown the technology. The issue is he has gotten better and better at built in obsolescence, and everyone now suffers from the "frog in boiling water syndrome". I know a lot of you will disagree with me, but why in the world if one's box is running well would they run to the upgrade or new drivers and install them? I know this just can't be true but I really think that "if it ain't broke just tweak it, but don't upgrade". I'm sure its Murphy's law again, but the only time I have had driver problems (except the PC Chips) is when someone has talked me into an update. I cant tell the difference from one version to the next. I will never install new drivers again unless they address something with which I have a concern. I know people that think just because its new it's better... hmmm kinda like Millenium,,eh? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Uh no offense to any of my ME friends, TKOP especially... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Stop whining, read the resources, and figure out for yourselves that w98se and w2000 are fine o/s for slightly different applications, and winME is a stop gap.......I think anyone who researched the subject knew this before wME hit the shelves. THEN, be darn glad that you don't have a Macintosh, for which new o/s versions do not necessarily support previous hardware, including video, cpus, and motherboards. Far be it from me to defend four-eyed Bill, but he is positively paternal in his concern for us compared to what he could be, given his monopoly.

Well WinME just depends on the user to make it run poperly.
I've been running it for over a year now and I only did 2 re-installs (but I did those two just because I like the fresh feeling it gives to the system).
On my 2 computers WinME is 20-30% FASTER than Win98SE and Win2K. It is by far more stable and more reliable than Win98SE. Although I tried this feature only once (I really don't like/mistrust doing it and rather do a re-install) the integrated recovery tool is absolutely fantastic!!! And it works great too!
I think WinME is the best Win9x to date.
I will not argue Win2K and WinME because I for one don't like Win2K! (destroyed lots of important data once).

I must admit that I was almost impressed with ME - it did (on my system) run more stably than 98 and 95. I ran it as an upgrade from 98, which was an upgrade from 95 (messy, I know!).
Much to my amazement, I think I only reinstalled it once (and that was not a 'clean' reinstall).
