WoooHooooooo! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Happy, happy Socalgal. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've got my 1200MHz 266fsb TBird up and running on the KT7A and he whips ****! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif (Yes, it's a HE - lots of muscle).

I was getting the infamously warned-about INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE thing going on because I tried to get away without reformatting; clearing all Intel BM and other devices didn't work. :/ I couldn't figure out a workaround, so I reformatted and am busy reinstalling everything. I downloaded and am using the latest VIA 4in1 4.29 drivers from www.viahardware.com (http://www.viahardware.com) .

This puppy is chewing up blocks at 2.70M/Keys (I'm talking about RC5 (http://www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html) } and while I haven't done any other benches or tweaking (default for now) other than RC5, I think I'm going to be happy for awhile with this guy.

I want to give a special thanks to Mr.C (aka MR COMPUTER for his referring me to Emad at PeachPC (http://www.peachpc.com/index.asp?CartId=9760706ZNCVY92) in GA and for his concern. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I ordered the 1.2GHz TBird 266fsb, Abit KT7A and a FOP38 (I think - it's loud enough!) and it seems PeachPC did a great job assembling the cpu/mobo/HSF combo (yep, I cheated). And they got it to me yesterday so I could work on it this weekend. More praises will be forthcoming shortly at ResellerRatings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com/) .

I also want to thank all you guys here in the forums who helped me. Your suggestions and advice were a big help and it's appreciated.

And jad, thanks for your help, and your link to Paul's Unofficial Abit KT7 FAQ (http://www.apushardware.com/faqs/kt7faq/kt7faq.htm) , which came in REAL handy when it came down to starting to sweat.

So, stay tuned, I'm sure I'll have alot of questions as I go down this merry road. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Cool Socal. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif i have recent;y come into some money (that research study check just came in and I was a guinea pig for upgrade $$$) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif i plan to get a 1.2 as well. I was hoping it would crack more than 2.7 though since I get 2.45 with my 900 PIII.

Congrats on the GHz club. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Guess you'll be even harder to catch now in RC5...

Hold it now. I get 3.4 on my little 1Ghz A-classic. I'd bet you can top it Socal.

(Actually I get 3,399,399.50 keys/sec from the benchmark but when cracking it's usually right around 3,300,000.00 keys/sec.)

Those stats are a little low for RC5 Socalgal, my celeron at 1060 does
[Mar 11 18:05:49 UTC] Benchmark for RC5 core #2 (RG class 6)
0.00:00:08.06 [2,860,720.23 keys/sec]

and goes well over 3Mkeys at 1130.

Something doesn't seem quite right there...

Are you using a newish client? At 1200mhz you should be whipping my ***!

Oh I'm sorry to hear that Jason http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif You wait for something with such anticipation only to be let down! 3 weeks seems a long time for an RMA - what company? Wouldn't they let you do an advance RMA with your credit card (if you have a cc, that is..). Anyway, they should send you a NEW MOBO, not a fixed-up defective!

Congrats on the new machine. Just got my first amd machine built last weekend. Been running rc5 all week at 3.2Mkeys/sec. System is tbird 900 (not oced) on asus a7v133. Wonder why a 1.2ghz tbird with 266 bus would be cranking out less.

From distributed.net...

v2.7110+ (May 30th 1999)

Looks like you have a release prior to Athlon optimization. Grab a later client and start kicking your way up the stats http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif.

2.8008.459 new: x86: new rc5 K7 core

2.8010.461 new: x86: RC5/K7 core from Holger Boehring

Looks like anything after .461 should be pretty good http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif.

It does not use DDR ram. It uses PC100/133 SDRAM. But the Kt133A chipset is the best for SDRAM right now. I think the performance increase from the KT133 chipset is something like 10-15% more.

Hiya Socal! Sweet system you've got there. Reading your system specs reminded me of a problem I have. Have you tried the G400 Max with dual monitors? I've got a KT7-RAID with the G400 Max and it works fine with the monitors cloned, but every time I turn on the dual displays and reboot, I get a Windows Protection error (WinME). Just wondered - probably a question for the Video forum.
