I was getting average cpu temp of about 45-50c in 23c room temperature. I read reviews and checked out forums of people that had the same athlon 1700 cpu and volcano 7+ heatsink. The temp they were getting was about 32-35c and never over 40c. So I went and reapplied the Arctic Silver II since the first time I applied it, I kinda went overboard and dabbed on quite alot (read also that might have an effect on the heat transfer, should apply a layer that is abotu paper thin). Now the temp is about 52c and I know your supposed to let it settle in about 2-3 days but when I try to run a power hungry app like 3dmark 2001, pc just crashes on me but other apps like IE runs fine atm. So my question is should I wait for the "goo" to set in or would something have went wrong and I should reapply a tad more artic silver since the temp is so high?

Thermal Compound should be applied as thinly as you possibly can.

View the instructions Here (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm) and start again. note how they recommend putting a small amount on the rear of the Heatsink to fill any surface imperfections, and if the CPU has a glassy finished surface that you should use less.
