I'm helping a friend setup a laptop he purchased. The os (win98se) and everything else installed fine. Everything worked great for about two weeks and he brought it back and everything was default windows settings, I had to reinstall his audio and video drivers and reset some of his preferences and everything seems fine. He tried to install some software from cd yesterday and he keeps getting "Can not install to folder marked as temporary by system properties, please choose another folder or change system properties" He was trying to install to "Program Files" folder. Thinking it was his cd, I tried a game cd I have and got the same messages. I have looked at all the folder and system properties that my limited knowledge allows and still can't figure it out. P.S.(I even tried copying the cd to hard drive and installing and get the same message.) Help

It sounds like your friend has been plying with files he shouldn't have, and my have upset\deleted some crucial system file in the process.

Re-install win98 over the top of itself to revert the Sys files to thier defaults.

and tell your friend not to mess with files he doesn't recognise in future, it sometimes makes you wish you had just said "no" in the first place, and that can't be good.
