Hope this is the right place to put this thread.
I have a few nic cards, all same. Only markings on them are:

ID:0003B3002BE5 and RCH01322208475 (This number has bar codes above)

the chip has these markings:
RTL8139C
OC29A1
1018 TAIWAN

I tried the pre 1998 and after 1998 FCC sites and got nowhere for the first time ever with the markings as above.
I tried 2 other driver sites like windrivers, no luck.

The floppy that came with it has this marked on outside:

RC-8139
10/100 Mbps
Fast Ethernet Lan

When I install the nic to win98se, windows says it is a Realtek8139 and installs from the win98cd once it uses an "inf" file that came from the site below.

I went to the website to this page and there are a literal ton of drivers for every os you can think of except a few:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...6&Software=True

Looks like it may be a Realtek8139 nic but I cant get it to work in win98se. It works in "network neighbourhood" and I can get onto my other computer and transfer files and so on. Works real well there but I cannot get onto the internet. I get the standard white page. I have tried all different settings in internet explorer, turned zonealarm pro off, cant remember if I turned antivirus off, have to check on that one.
These 2 computers are both running in win98se but I have them set up for win xp pro as well, havent tried the nic there yet but it wont work in win 98se.
Makes me wonder if I have the correct drivers but windows98se recognizes it as a Realtek 8139, it says RC-8139 on the floppy that came with it, so maybe I have the right drivers, but I cant get on the internet with it. My setup is cable modem with 2 win98 se, 2 nic cards, 1Boca Research 4 port hub, necessary cat 5 cables. This configuration I have had for years and all other nic cards, including but not limited to a Netgear FA311 work on it so its not the fault of the isp?

Any advice or help here?

Thanks in advance.

ok, for one thing, if you can't get on the net, then what are you doing online? :D j/k

Well, if it works for browsing your network, then you don't need any drivers to connect to the internet.

If you have an external dsl modem and have a basic dsl account, then you will have to use a pppoe software such as Enternet300 And if you have an account with a static IP then you will want just type that IP in for your Nic card and plug in your modem to it and there you go.

If you are trying to get to the internet through your network, then I recommend that you either get a dsl router that handles the login and shares your dsl connection. or you can go to AnalogX.com and download their Proxy Server program, it's free and under 300K, all you do is type in the IP adress of the pc that has the net hooked to it, and type in the port number (under internet options) and on the pc with that is connected with the net, run this program.

The downfall for the program is that the computer that is connected to the internet will always have to be on when another computer is wants to access the web.

I've used a few Realteks over the years... decent cards for a decent price.

Who is your internet provider? How do you logon? Like gjimene2 said some require PPPoE to logon... others have other requirements.

Another thought... does your IP document the MAC address (unique) of how you originally logged on? If so, then you may have to clone the MAC addy of your new NIC with the original NICs address. There may be other ways to "reset" the MAC address -- if that's the issue -- maybe contact you IP.

To gjimeme2

I did point out that I have 2 computers, one of which is working, the one that has another nic card. I did mention all my other nic cards work.
I have the "possibly Realtek" nic card in the other computer and that is where the problem is, I cant get on the net with this nic.
I can access the network but still cannot get on the net.

Consequently, I cant understand your first few comments. Specially when you talk about getting a new router, etc, what the hell for? Just cuz I am having trouble with a $10 nic card? Hardly think so. My cable modem and the other nic cards do me just fine. Only have a problem with this 1 nic card.

As for the "proxy server program", I will check it out, thanks for the info.

I was hoping that I would run into someone who has the same nic card that I am having trouble with and perhaps some info on it for me!!

Still might happen.

my provider is cogeco.ca, cable modem, always on, just install your nic and connect, thats all there is to it usually.

I have 4 other nic cards, they all work fine, just this one that I have wont connect to the net automatically like the other ones do.

They go bad... a power surge... a nearby lightening strike (even with a surge protector)... sometimes for no reason at all. Scrap it.

well if 3 out of 4 works

it's rather evident this one is dead.

just trash it and get another one if you really need so, nic cards are dirty cheap, you can get them at $1 for the 10Mbps here or $5 for the 100mbps at most places now :t

geeesh I need to start wearing my glasses instead of contacts when i'm on the computer because I didn't see he had 4 of the same on the network, ROFL

only read that he had two.

so then I agree with allgamer, trash the other, get a new one.

Garebo,
Two questions:
1. When you go to IE explorer, you don't have "Work Offline" checked do you?
2. Do you have Netbui and TCP/IP protocols installed?
Maybe you covered these in your thread but I didn't see it.
