Hey guys, can someone explain to me in easy terms on what those acronyms DDR, RAID, ATA 66/100, UDMA stand for? I was wanting to buy a computer and the sales guy just gave me all this baloney and jacking the price up so high I just left the store. I thought a Hard drive was measured by RPMs? The faster the RPM the faster the access of the HD? Erm, thanks in advance. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
DDR = Double Data Rate
(Memory Modules)
SDR = Single Data Rate.
(Memory Modules)
RAID = Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks (Software or Hardware Methods)
ATA = Advanced Technology Attachment
(The specification for IDE interface)
UDMA = Ultra Direct Memory Access
(Burst Speed Methods)
RPM and Burst Rate (DMA 33/66/100) is a different thing. You will see more increase in performance with higher RPM Vs. Burst Rate. However, the burst rate mode 33/66/100 also plays a part in the increase in performance so that can not be ignored.
Do a search on any search engine and you'll be able to find more in-depth info on the above term. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Also, Internet.com's Webopedia (http://webopedia.internet.com/) is a good overall computer encyclopedia. It's updated somewhat frequently and has enough info to at least give the idea of what you are interested in.
I often visit www.whatis.com (http://www.whatis.com) for answers to this kind of question.
