Hi I want to get another video card as a upgrade and to build another system (tualitin based).
I want to which is best for me. I am looking into a budget system here.
should i get a expensive vid card? Would they inhance a taulitin based system with only sdram?
Should I go ATi, of Geforce?
Presently I am using nvidia tnt2
not so great but gets the job done for now.

What is your Price Range for a new Video card?

ok my range is around 90-100 bucks.
I will go to 120 if need be anything above that is too high for me right now.

The 9700 would be a real waste in a P3 mobo. I would recommend a GF4 Ti4200, Radeon 8500/7500, GF3 non-MX or even a GF2 GTS. They all rock.
The GF4 MX420/440 are good too.

Go GeForce 2 Ti (same card I have 0.o) or GeForce 3 Ti-series. Anything less is suicide in the 3D world :r
And stay away from the MX-series of GeForce cards, be they Ge2 or Ge4... they're only for workstations that don't need heavy 3D or even 2D power. Meant for home users with no aspirations of gaming or design work.

The GF4 MX420 benches the same as the GF2 GTS (a good card). It's fine, but neither includes pixel-shading or environmental bum-mapping.
Nothin' fer nothin' - get a Ti4200.

else the Radeon 8500

i highly suggest a radeon 8500 for sub $100 cards. The geforce4ti4200 doesn't quite fit his price range, unless he cracks open the piggy bank for an extra $10-$20.

It wouldn't be a waste in my bothers P3, he already gets almost 10,400 3dmark 2001se marks with a Ti4200:) :D

Guys, he is upgrading from a TNT2! An $80 Geforce 3 Ti200 will seem like a whole new world. And given his socket 370 mainboard, won't be overkill. I wish I had experience with an ATI Radeon 8500, but I have still seen too many posts of PWP (people with problems) when it comes to ATI cards and their drivers to try one for myself. It may well be that an 8500LE may be his best option in his price range, but I know a Geforce 3 would work both in price and performance.
