Make sure your Laptop BIOS is set to BOOT from CD or A:
if not it will just go to the HDD
and there's no UPGRADE path from Linux to Win2K
you will simply have to FDISK, FORMAT, and INSTALL Win2K

THANKS. I TRIED THAT BUT I COULDN'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO SET THE BIOS. ANY TIPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THIS IS A CRAZY MACHINE. I AM COMFORTABLE WITH FDISK AND FORMATTING THE DRIVE BUT THE MACHINE REFUSES TO BOOT FROM FLOPPY OR CDROM
AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS:confused:

Do you mean you can't get into the bios, or can't set it?

can't get into the bios. i think there is a way of running an fdisk utility on linux but i know nothing about linux as i have never used it.

Press and hold F2 when turning the machine on. The following link gives a bit more detail:
http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3JWKJX.html?lang=en_US&page=brand&brand=none&family=IBM+ThinkPad%7CThinkPad+380ED&doctype=&subtype=All&up=unknownuser1004106089
It should then be possible to set it under boot options somewhere. For the other machine, try holding down the delete key when turning it on, if that doesn't work, try F1.
