When I click on various links, in the message boards (where I first noticed it) or various other places I get redirected to a friggin porn site! This is a work computer, god knows where theyve been but I cant even get to sysopt sometimes , I restarted and that helped but it might do it again. Ran the cleaner but found nothing..
By the way Im using Win2k

As I understand W2k, someone would have to have logged on with Administrative privileges for this to happen? Maybe deleting all the cookies will help.

Open IE. Go to Tools=>Internet Options=>Connections=>Lan Settings and make sure if there is a proxy set up, it's necessary and/or the right one if your company uses one.

Ok I had this problem with IE , it kept going to a porn site when I clicked on a link. I ran the cleaner ,found nothing,I ran PC Cillin and it said I had a virus called BOOT.GENERIC in my partition and couldnt be cleaned? I found some info on this virus but nothing on how to get rid of it. Im running W2k on our old P166 work computer, the guys have been looking at god knows what...

Don't be too hasty to judge the computer operators and assume where they have been.
Redirect viruses can be programmed to do just what you describe, redirect to specific sites..
I doubt the surfing habits of the users have led to this..

There is something going around...I friend of mine has had a "porn redirect" grap control of his computer. As soon as he goes on line, he bounces to a porn site (using IE). I told him to use the "Find command" and inspect each .exe file until he finds the offender.
What other things should he be told to do?
Thx in advance..

The same thing happens to my brothers computer. I deleted all the history, favourites, cookies and it did nothing. What ever u set the homepage to it will always open to a porn site.It started to happen a day or so after I updated it to IE5.5 for him.I've got IE5 and I've never had such a problem. What version of IE are u using?

It seems to be a problem with Roadrunner Cable service and a bad DNS redirect problem.
Think its fixed by now

As you start your Internet Explorer look at the status bar and get the name of the site exactly. Go into regedit, Edit, Find and type in the site's name. Find everywhere it's at and delete it. Also check your program files. Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and look for the site in your program files and remove/delete. Check with MSN and look for the updates concerning the vulnerabilities of your browser and install them.
