I just helped my bro throw together a new computer. Using an AK32 MOBO and an Athlon 1800 XP. That is all that was changed from the previous setup. Oh and a bigger power supply. The problem I am having is that the board is not detecting the cdrom drives and wont boot if they are hooked up. They are setup correctly as far as the hardware and jumpers go. If I boot with just the hard drive connected and nothing on IDE 2 there is are problems. I have heard of this board having trouble detecting the floppy drive before but never the cdroms. Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks Much

I don't know wr,, sounds like an incorrectly hooked up IDE cable,, check again... you never know,, or even a bad IDE cable,, try another.. check the bios,, to see what it's reading,, if you can,, maybe something is off.. :( :(
Hey wrldeater, try this. Make sure your IDE cables are on the correct ends. If you have an IDE cable with a blue connector put that end on the motherboard IDE connector. Then get another IDE cable and put it on the CD-ROM drive and connect it to the secondary IDE connector. Set the jumper on both the hard drive and CD-ROM drive to Master. I recently built a PC and remember setting both jumpers to Master and had zero problems with having the CD drive being detected. Hope this helps.
By the way, welcome to Sysopt, wrldeater. :t

Thanks Much for the warm welcome and the info. I actually was a member of sysopt a year or so ago and kinda faded away for a whilem, but always remembered it was a great place to share information. I have tried all the combinations that I could think of and had no luck. Did not try the master master combo though......seems odd :) It just may work.
Thanks

Also, now it seems that the bios wont recognize the floppy either even with nothing else but the hd connected. I was going to flash the bios with the newest version and cant even do that. I am a + as well by the way so I know pretty well what I am doing, just never ran into this problem before.
