When I visit the google.com web site and click on a link the link changes color. The next day when I visit google again the link color remains changed. My question is, how does google identify me/my PC and set that specific link color to "visited" or "changed"? I can't locate any sort of cookie or registry entry that relates to google on my PC. So, is it stored at google and the google web site looks for my PC ID or IP address?

This visited link feature is set by way of the browser's history. You notice the links will return to normal after clearing the history.

If you are not happy with the colour you can change it by , selecting Tools,>Internet Options> Colour. If you set visited to the same colour as unvisited, all links will natuarally be the same. History/temp based as stated by Rob.

Hi, Karen. Welcome to SysOpt!

I like to set my "visited" color to red and then tell my browser (Netscape) to use my colors. This lets me quickly identify which threads in these forums I've visited.

Sometimes, though, I have to set it back to using the default colors. Some websites come up as white on white (or pale yellow) and are unreadable if I don't.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, that has really been bugging me for a long time so I really appreciate the advice. I just tried it and it worked fine.

Thank you, RobRich, Lebo and Roy.
