Hello everybody:
I am working on a system which I think is ready for the dumpster. But just in case something went past by me...
Memory is deffective to begin with, but there is something more; I put it in another system and failed. I put good sticks in this system, still does not boot.
Most of the times, about 98% of the times, it does not even beep. Fan works but that is about it. When, when it did boot, I enter Bios and says cpu is 233 mhz, base frequency 66, mulplier 3.5, sdram freq. also 66. That makes sense, right?
Now, after exiting Bios, screen shows cpu is a celeron with a speed of, I do not recall exactly, around five hundred. That is what surprises me.
Any inspiring ideas? Thanks as always,

I think you'll need to post some info on your particular mobo to get much help. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking maybe the board jumpers or BIOS is set at 3.5 multiplier and 66MHz FSB but the processor is being (correctly) identified as a 5xx Celeron. But that's just a guess.

it is possible that you could have a bad processor also, if you have another handy pop it in and see what happens. I've had several systems act strange and only post part of the time, I can remember two specific instances where it was the processor to blame.:t

Thank you all for your answers. And yes, Deadkenny, as I said, when it booted, the bios reflected those settings, 233mhz, 66 mhz, 3.5 multiplier. However, the cpu was recognized as a celeron 533 mhz. That is the 'mismatch'. If it booted again, I might try to multiply it in the Bios so Bios sees a 533 mhz cpu, but I guess that might cause some trouble. In any case, it no longer boots, beeps or whatever. So, not much to do.
