Hmmn, maybe at 640 x 480 or 800x600, i dont think it would be wise to upgrade until nearer the release date, as the system spec requirements are liable to go up up up in the interim...

System is ok I would up yer processor to a xp 2000+ at least (wont cost much at all) and if ya want to spill some cash the nv30 series is coming out soonit will be interesting to see what that is all about, also there is a little something going on where there is a xp2800+ coming out the first CPU by amd to run @ 333 fsb and not just the 266 well I am starting to rant time to sign off

if you think that system you have will be good in over a year from now then maybe but a lot of stuff changes in a year...

You guys don't jump to conclusions yet!!! If DOOM III can run on a geforce 3(Yes, when the GeForce 3 came out in 2001 they ran a DOOM III demo on it) and since they are going to release it on the XBOX wich specs are slower than most new PCs, then, hypothetically speaking, it should run on Chowdy's system.
If not, then I am screwed, cause my system is slower than his:r :x

yeah, bizkitkid is correct, the system he has should be fine.. i have an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ and according to Bigjakk, this is SLOW... SLOW! its not, just because there is faster technology out, doesn't mean it has to be used for the newest games.

If your building a compo now and can budget it the MINIMUM specs id advise for future compatibility are:
XP 2000+ or P4 2ghz
512mb DDR
128mb gf4ti4200
im not saying anything lower than that is nescisairilly slow, as in Optimus' 1600+ but it will become slow in comparison to the new boys within the next year, therefore your better spending the bucks on that lil bit extra IMO

I guess i was thinking more of full rez everything on mode ;)
Yeah I still play recent games with a 4 year old system, although sometimes its in "low" mode most of the time.
Guess the question is....it will run, but how good. I think I rmemeber the company saying that the Doom III demo was very preliminary and only used about 1/2 the quality that would be in the final version.
More ram, maybe? Of course, I can't talk, (256)

christmas time is comin' 'round... i'm 15 so i still get spoiled on christmas...ill ask my parents for an athlon xp 2600+ (when the 2800+ comes out so that the prices drop) and ill ask like my aunt for another 256mb stick of ram! hehehe...and then a tt copper hsf for my gf4ti for some overclocking. LOL. Us geeks love christmas time!
Thanks for the responses. I figured i was ready... now i know i am not. I bought that gf4ti4200 128mb (it was a good price) and the 80GB WD 8mb cach 7200rpm drive in preparation.
I make a big deal out of this because Doom is my most favorite game series of all time. Perhaps it's boring now (i mean it's like 5+ years old) but it's still my favorite. I'm eagerly awaiting this title!

You should be able to run it just fine... I'm also planning to upgrade my system sometime between October 30th (birthday) and Christmas time.... If the new 333MHz CPU's are available by the end of October, thats what i'll have, along with some PC2700 memory instead of the PC2100 I have now... Then i'll have a spare XP1700+ CPU and 512MB of PC2100 laying around, I guess i'll just have to build another system :p

i can play in any reso 800x600 and above...
at 1024 i dont notice the difference, apart from you have more space in the HUD :)..
from 640x480 to 800x600 i definately notice the difference.
