That was then, this is now. It doesn't really matter what happened in the past. Because it is just that The Past.

It's just not worth talking about. internet.com are jerks or at least Gus was. If you want to talk about it or learn what happend I suggest you do it through PM, ICQ or IRC

I agree with surreal.

That happend in the past, we should focus on the future instead of what happend almost a year ago.

Hey Hey all you oldies :t

I agree. Let bygones be bygones. What happened was sad, some things were handled poorly, and we could sit here and point fingers all day, but that is not the right thing to do. Sites go through changes often, some bigger than others. This one is no different and no site is immune. It is long past time to move on and forgive.

As for all my Sysopt friends still here, please feel free to drop me a line and say hello. There are many that I miss. I only wish I had more time to spend on different sites, but my life won't allow me enough time. :) My email is in my profile.

Have a good one, friends.
Dave

Man, I am going CRAZY.. what are you guys talking about??

jad1097
10-02-2002, 03:03 AM
Just a polite short version

Scott sold the site to earthweb...earthweb was bought by internet.com...they got rid of the staff. The staff decided to stay and help anyway. They got rid of Scott. Scott started a new board. Most of the long-term members left the site. When they left they threw a fit. Some threads got deleted. Some members did to along with all of their posts.

Did I miss anything I should not have? I do know more than I will say but that is pretty much it.

"can you explain to the rest of us how this place USED to be?"

Like a family. A huge one at that!

I don’t think tech is so much like that anymore because it has grown so much but romulus 2 and mntsnows site certainly are. If tech were still like that then I imagine Scott would not have banned me over something so stupid. lol fungars, just being myself

Romulus 2 pretty much summed it up in that link.

well, i don't know about the rest of the forums so much but we are fairly tight in the DC forums.

we all get alone quite nicely in and out of the DC forum and always have a laugh.

maybe more of you should be running seti@home on the sysopt.com (unofficial) team.

unfortunately due to my exceptional ineptitude the index page of the website is FUBAR and needs to be re-done, but if you can navigate past the main page the site is still intact. if you click on one of the links on the messed up index page it will take you to the rest of the site where you will be able to have a look.

I'm going to get the site sorted, but I reckon it's going to be in something like Dreamweaver rather than (cringe) FrontPage which was what it was first created in (I know it's ****, but it's my first site).

***viBe***
The Sysopt.com Users 2002 SETI@home team website is now ONLINE!!! WooHoo. It can be found at www.setiteam.com. If you would like to contribute to the site or the team have a look HERE (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111092)
:xFREE:x POP3 & Web based e-mail for all active members yourname@setiteam.com 5MB attachments!!! Come get some :D

I asked fluffy this question and he gave me a good response.

Why can't we ALL get back together and have it be like it use to be? I know that i don't feel what some of you guys do becuase I wasn't here when this all happened. Maybe it would be a bad idea to get back together?

NDD
10-04-2002, 09:14 PM
Don't think it's such a good idea

Scott started SysOpt as his own project, what did he expect when he sold it out ? Billions of keystrokes were typed, but it didn't change nothing. That's the way it's in business :(
I was here before it happened. Do I miss the "old" site ? Yeah, in some way. When many left I stayed here. I'm ocassionally visiting all the "other" sites, but ... it's not there anymore. Maybe coz I don't have so much time as in the past, and few of my good buddies are not visiting as often as before as well ... or maybe I just grew up over it ...

Anyway, I like SysOpt. And Moderatorship has nothing to do with it. I'd still be coming here even as eVil©®™ pSycHOkiLLiNG 3l33t mEMBeR :D

Checking to see if I still exist......:t

BTW I found these figures pretty amazing.

Sysopt Registered Members: 35,272

Techimo Registered Members: 71,462

I think that shows you that it takes some skill to run a forum and not just a history. And you have to figure that out of those 35,272 many are us members that changed and still count here.

Hi ND good to see ya again. :t

jad1097
10-07-2002, 11:44 AM
bhess, you must also consider that is NOT the amount of members at techimo e. It is for what, three of scotts sites? I think techimo, resellerrattings and photopost are the three and there may be one more too. There are more active members there.

http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=7002&highlight=Registered+Members
Well, we wanted to give people another server to download the 130MB demo from - all of the servers that offered it were jam packed. We get a certain amount of bandwidth every month included in our monthly hosting price so we had to be careful not to go over that amount. There are two main reasons why we wanted to require users to register:

1.) They might stick around once they register and see what the site is about.

2.) Our registration form has a new feature that asks users if they would like to receive info about specific topics like DSL, etc. A company called PostMaster Direct allows 3rd parties to send quality on-topic mailings to the users who request information, without divulging their email address, and that earns revenue for us.

So, yeah, it inflated the number of members a bit, but now they all know about TechIMO. In a week or so when we have our gaming section up, and do more file serving, they'll be more likely to hang around.

Yeah if you look at the active member list you will notice it says "Currently Active Users: 0 (On TechIMO.com, ResellerRatings.com, and PhotoPost.com)"
