Hi. I'm running 98SE, and a Compaq 7360 Presario.
Now, I know this will be intirely too generica question, BUT, every time I disconnect from the internet, it freezes.
Another "explorer has caused a..." problem.
So, if you can give me any ideas, please do so, as (as you can imaginge) this is a real pain in the ****.
I hadn't recently installed any new software, so I can't really figure why this is happening.
Thanks so much..

Here's a few questions that will narrow down the possible answers to your problems.
What version of IE are you running?
What type of modem do you have?
Have you ever had this problem in the past? If so, was it exactly the same?
What browser were you using when the previous problem occured?

Hi.
Well, I'm using IE 5.5 now. Before, I was running the version that ships with 98SE.
I have a HSP56 MicroModem. (never heard of them...)
Now, Since I installed IE 5.5, I can connect. They I can run IE, Napster, AOL messenger, Ultra Player (MP3's), rain, etc. Then, one at a time, they **** out. Until finally, explorer closes, and of course a reboot unsues!
So, from this can you help me out?
Thanks,
By-Tor

Go to the above sight and download the Modem fix from Compaq. While your there, see if there is anything else that may help?

Do you have all the IE5.5 updates?

Well, for right now, all is well, if you can call it that.
Although I really hate to do this, I went ahead and installed ME over SE, and (for now) everything's working smoothly.
So....
I tell you, I'm beginning to think that I had a virus, and maybe it altered some files that re-installing win may have re-overwritten.
BUt, the only time I had problems were when I'd hit the 'net.
I tried installing NAV 2001, and things really went to hell! I couldn't even get into win. Except of course in safe mode.
Anyway, I'm in for now, and I'll keep you posted. Thanks again..

Hi By-tor & the Snow Dog,
You may have problems with I.E. 5.5 on Win98SE for the simple reason that I.E. 5.5 was designed specifically for WinME. Your problem may have been solved simply because you have now upgraded to WinME. Any problem that you still have may be the negative ramifications of incompatibility of I.E. 5.5 with Win98SE initially.
Watch those I.E. upgrades, there very buggy.
All the best,
G
