ive mentioned this ij another thread but i think a new title is needed and focus needs shifting...
went to play max payne the other day for the first time in ages, and found the sound and graphics to stuttes and crackle when playing cutscenes (e.g. the intro),.... originally i thouhgt the 4 in 1's may be at fault as i had some control issues with the game on newer versions, but i went back as far as i could find and no go... its been that long since i played i cant really think of anyhitng else....
...has anyone had this experience??

if it's cut scenes
then it sounds like your DMA is not enabled
or your CD drive is kinda slow at the Access Time
try running the game off the HDD, and use some tools to make it think that it's the CD ;)
see if that runs better :t

Its all running off the HDD anyways.. no cd crack *ahem*
the general game seems stuttery, something ive never had before on this setup and in game audio is also garbled...

how does a Game Re-install sounds like?
backup your saved games first :p

so i guess it comes down to Drivers or Hardware problem then, eh?
well we know you have the latest drivers
so lets skip that and move onto the hardware
But before we begin
does it happen only in Max Payne, or also on other games?

Max payne only - so that ive noticed... and its only a recent development as i completed it for like the 6th time about 2 month back and am returning to it again when i found this problem :(

Now it sounds more like problem with your Save games then
try starting a new game, see if the same happends :t

It still happens with new games, i aint using the save games as theyre from completed games, i was starting from the begining, the problem also occurs with the save games too...

Ive found the culprit... Sygate Personal Firewall... and to think ive spent ages tearing through the BIOS and driver today :(
I noticed when i was using Imesh to dl in the background and it got REALLY jerky, i got onto thinking a back ground app must be causing the problems with memory access or sumik - this led to disabling the firewall which sits in system try and voila!! :D
Cheers AG

You should ALWAYS trun off firewall and virus scanner when playing games.;)
