So who has checked out "Americas Army"? In case you didn't know, this FREE first person shooter was released by the US Army just recently. I installed it and was amazed to see such a detailed environment. The scary thing is, the government is keeping track of your every move! Thats right, you have to create a "soldier account" online and then they give you a password so you can log in to play the multiplayer parts. Also, you have to complete "boot camp" so to speak, in order to get to play the multiplayer levels. Any thoughts on this? I thought this was rather interesting myself. Also, I am having trouble running it. Is a PIII 600 with 256 meg RAM and a 32 meg TNT2 Ultra just not going to cut it or am I doing somthing wrong?

Thoughts and suggestions welcome...

P.S. Checked System Requirements on the homepage and I don't quite fit in the minimum bracket...looks like I will be upgrading soon *sigh*

for free, its a decent game, but it doesnt have much to it, there are few levels and few weapons, and if you die it takes forever between rounds because of the extra long round times and massive land scapes, overall its pretty good for a free game, but if it wasnt... i woulndt purchase it

The game recommends a video card with the Nvidia chipset. Minimum req are Geforce 2 with 64MB video ram, but they recommend a card with 128MB of video ram. I installed in my cousins computer which has a Geforce 2 with 64mb and it runs ok, it is much better if your video card has 128MB which mine does.

AA is definitely the Best game ever

no complains about time, since i don't feel it's even long enough for some missions

and yes the Realistic feel is just soooo Good

just like Ghost Recon, this is the type of FPS that should over take all those other ones like UT2K3, Quake 3, HL, etc

those are just too fake, too much cheating

real games like this are the ones worth playing :t :p

'too much cheating'

?

dont quote me on this or does it look like the more 'realistic' games get cheated the most?

a prime example would be Counter-Strike...

case closed... uhh, i mean, i rest my case.

It's hard competeing with games like Counter-Strike though because they have been around for such a long time and have such a hold on that type of gaming. I personally found Rainbow, Ghost and it's counterparts to be too overwhelming with mission planning and tactical strategy. Yet Counter-Strike is "trying" to move players in that direction, especially with ConZero. Irony anyone? I bring this up along with AA because of AA's realism and its efforts to pick up the same style of play as CS. Mainly because of the governments watchful eye...does anyone else find this a little scary?

nope i actually find this more fun, more real

Strategical Missions are the best way to go

not just some mindless group them and shoot them up

like the way old Flag and Death match long ago introduced by Quake and HL

that's no fun, no point, just jumping and running crazy like a mokey with a grenade launcher :x

That's why out of all the FPS games, Ghost Recon + all expansions are my 1st top choice, then American Army

:t

nothing like being able to BUST those Tanks :D

You know what will be fun for the type of games like Quake 3 or HL/CS ?

GTA 3 Multiplayer Online

NOW that'll be a kicker ;) :p

that will be one i like

cuz you'll be able to use the Tanks and cars, and stuff :x

So is AA gamepad enabled, or is it a Keyboard and Mouse job, I hate those games. :(

I just don't like many keyboard games, I hate sitting with the keyboard on my lap, my Thrustmaster has more control and I have freedom to move if I feel the need.

GAMEPADZ RULE!!!:p

Bleuch - not for me, it reminds me of FPS's on consoles... theyre flwed due to the lack of mouse aim.. with mouse aim i could pick the left testicle offa a mountain goat from 1000 "game" yards, with a gamepad look i couldnt hit a donkeys **** with a rocket launcher :(

Guess the old WASD and mouse look is more intuitive to me eh, each unto his own m8 :)

I like the America's Army game. I started to actually play it once they patched in the server browser - I hate gamespy with a passion.

Why on earth would you want to use a gamepad/joystick for a fps? Even my console playing friends like using the mouse more than a gamepad in FPSs like q3 and cstrike.

Great. Just what the world needs.

More American Propaganda and Patriotism.

Download it for free and take a look at The U.S. Armies website while doing it.
A good way to find potential recruits I guess.

I wonder what would happen if someone mooned Uncle Sam and gave him the middle finger salute. Would that someone be labeled a terrorist????

 :x :r :D
