Do you think that INTEL and AMD should combine? Obviously this wouldn't happen, but if it did, would you agree with it and be happy?

No because sod's law dictates the pricing would stay at Intel levels... and besides, a lil bit of chouce and competition is good...

Hamsters! Then we get QuantiHamster architecture!

Think of it... all we need to do is clean the c**p out of the heatsinks once in a while, no need to worry about water-coolers condensing and frying the motherboard, I mean hamster cage!

MUHAHAHAHHAHAH

Yes, I need sleep!

It would be a horrible thing if it happened. Intel being like they are wouldn't even use anything from AMD engineers.

If Intel combine with Amd.. wow the cpu price going to rise so high. Cpu so cheap czu AMD & Intel on war.. Think about if there isn't AMD exist and only Intel.. you think the Intel will have 2.8 release??

Or vise verse too my freind. If AMD was the only one and Intel went bust your beloved AMD xp1600+ that is $50 (a great deal by the way) would be like $130 or so easy....;)

It would be bad for these two companies to combine as there will be no competetion for the more Ghz, they would slowly slowly increase the CPU's Ghz cause they are one company and no competetion. :(

Combining both companies would become a monopoly for the industry prices would skyrocket and we the customers would pay the price. AMD vs Intel equates to competition which in turn give customers faster processors and competitive prices :D

Competition is the best thing to lower prices.

i agree being seprate companies is what makes the prices resonable since they are competing for the market

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

AMD is always the #1 choice because of their great prices! Without competition, the price of processors will SKY ROCKET.

Thank God for this wonderful competition between the 2 chip powers!! We win.

A third company in the CPU arena would be nice too...

C'MON, CYRIX!!! :t

No Way,

Then I would have to start rooting for Via\Cyrix!

Another company that made a chip comparable to the P4 and XP line would be great. Even lower prices, but Cyrix is no were near either of the two. :(

I wish I had about 50billion$. I would buy AMD and pay the engineers to work 15 hour shifts and then I would double the size of the Dresden plant. Then, AMD would OWN!!!

and then we will have no more suing thing...hundred's of chipsets to choose from...we can have bios updates for 850e to support future INTELAMD CPU's...ha what a waste...

btw what would their processors be called then?

perhaps....Penthlon;) :D :t

then what about the 64 bit versions...perhaps Itahammer(that was a bad try...huh);)

What about if amd and intel combined, but there was still strong competition between amdintel and say another company like ibm? Lets forget the prices going up, what I wanted to know was what you think would happen to the quality of the chips :)

I dont think they should because amd is my favourite and i hate intel. If they ever did team up i might never buy a computer ever again

How about AMD releases the Clawhammer, Intel then releases the Prescott a few months later, and then the time gap allows AMD to gain some market and make some $$$ and then the competition from Intel will result in another price war which makes all the enthusiasts quite happy!

AMD IS THE TRUE PROCESSOR GOD. The hamster died serving under AMD. Lets all worship amd, for Hamsters sake.

Jimstep- Being America the way it is I highly doubt having it be a monopoly would be the limiting factor.

( think of all the monoploys in your area. For me there are many.):(

The name alone would be confusing and what would be the foot configuration on the moca mobo, will we need new mobo's or will they be backward compatable ????:D

Ya never know, Amd could be bought out in a takeover or forced merger.

Just like what happened to compaq/hp.
And after losing money for the past 5 quarters, that can't be good for amd either.
Amd can survive, but it is up to the company itself how to do it.
