I just swapped out my asus p4t for a abit th7. I got xp installed, but i'm not happy with system performance yet. My system speaker will give one short beep while surfing or doing things in windows for no apparant reason. Anybody know why? I'm thinking bad m/b. Another thing is- -with this m/b it's taking over 1 minute to boot, while the p4t would boot in around 30 secs. I haven't flashed bios yet. Gonna try that tonight and some other tweaks. I only have a 30 day dealer warranty and would like to figure this out quick. any helpful ideas would be great.
my specs:
P4 1.5
abit th7

w.d. 1200jb h/d
mitsumi 40x20x48x cdrw
linksys 10/100
alcatel ethernet dsl modem
windows xp home

Intermittent beeps can often mean loose connections. Check that your RDRAM is well seated. I've had something as easy as a loose PS/2 mouse connection trigger intermittent beeps.

I do believe it was a bad fan, disconnected them & haven't heard a beep yet. Now- why does it take over 1 minute to boot? I can't take it! Think I'm going back to my Asus p4t this weekend.

Does it have Raid? Even if it doesn't the Abit boards that I have used KT7, Kt7A-Raid, KR7A-Raid, AT7, KX7+ are all a little slow in the boot department. If you are using WinXP, you can use Bootvis (http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/BootVis.asp) to speed up your start-ups.
