Welcome to SysOpt!
Wow!, yes for a 250w you'll DEFINITELY need at least a 300w to start doing any decent OC else you'll get a lot of system freezes and hang due not enough power
get something around the 350w+ if possible :t

Every little bit more wattage helps... go for a 400W and be nice and comfortbale for adding extra HDD's, FANs, CDROm's and whatnot too at a later date :)

So you are saying during a Re-boot it doesn't reboot fully, until you Press the Resett button?
if that's so it does sound like either a Timing Issue due OC or due not enough PSU power

It may or may not help in your situation, it also depends on your other components, particularily video card becuase the newer onces are pretty power hungry.

I'm getting a GF4 Ti4200 and putting it in my case which has a 250 Watt Power Supply and I am running a Duron 1.2 Ghz with the CPU Fan, hard drive, Cd-rom, floppy drive, etc and I have 3 fans running in the computer.
Will my power supply be able to support the GF4 Ti4200?
If I upgrade to an XP 1800 should I get a new power supply?
Thanks,
Alex.

The minimum that AMD recommends for xp line of cpu is a 300 watt supply your best bet is a 350watt or 400watt should serve your needs,350watt would be fine.Buy Name brand stay away from generic.

Alex Iannuzzi- If you get an Xp you better get a new PS. It is the safe thing to do.

Well it's going to be too late because the package with the GF4 Ti4200 will be coming this week. I will have to hope for the best.

Well if it starts crashing every time you try to use your CDRW and some other heavy usage it's probably a power issue.

My advice is to never **** around with a power supply, this is where you can afford not to have to budget.
I mean, they're pretty much like one of the most inexpensive parts in your computer, but so so very important.
For my new box I'm getting a 450W Codegen with Dual fans just to be on the safe side, because you don't want to be starving any of your hardware.

No generic. Sparkle, and Enermax are the two brands I trust most.

Antec is also good. More expensive would be PC Power & Cooling.

The only reason you may need more than a 250watt PSU for a Duron 800 is if you have a gforce2 or better AGP card and a case loaded down with stuff. They are power hungry but unless you have problems then don't worry about it.
An Antec 250watt PSU has pushed my Duron 700@933 for a couple years now even with a gf2 now with no problems. 250 watts pushing 2 92mm fans, 1 80mm, fop-38 hs/fan, 2 hdds, 1 burner, 1 cdrom, floppy, 3 pci cards and a GF2. Needing a 300watt PSU is more myth than anything else. I even pulled a 300watt PSU out of another box to see if I could get more out of this thing because someone suggested it. It did not change a thing.
Where is your 800 topping out at? About 1GHz?

In this hopscotch of technology the power supply definitely needs to jump forward.
All of us learn this the hard way I guess

i have a 350 watt generic power suply and i havent had any problems with my comp
it pushes a xp2000+ to 1.85GHZ(a lil over 2200+)
about 14 case fans including my hard drive coolers and heat sink/video card
2x cc lights
a geforce2
2x Cd-rw's
dvd-rom
digidoc5
and 2x Maxtor 80gig 7200rpm hd
and 2x Western digital 20gig 5400rpm hd
and 1x western digital 4.7gig 5400rpm hd (moded with a window)
i guess im juss lucky but i dont see the need for a bigger ps as of yet.
