With an xp processor, what is the temperature that system instablility will be caused at (e.g. 70 c)?
Thanks guys and gals

The specs that AMD gives is 90 celsius for athlon xp 1500+ to 2100+ and the 2200+ max of is 85 celsius anything above that expect to have stability problems and a dead cpu

Bubbleflap I should be getting your question answered soon in reference to the coolermaster premium thermal compound I did get a response from coolermaster http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117644

as long as you keep it below 75c is good
70c is still marginal
:t
Average is 50c to 60c with stock cooling
with good expensive cooling to around 30c to 40c

After about 65C you will see lock ups most likley.

I just got off the phone talking to AMD in reference to their specifications as was told to me that their processors can even run with an accurate reading of 90 celsius without any problems 24hours a day 7 days a week so running your processor at even 70 celsius or 75 celsius is ok if your motherboard is reading the temperature accurately. The specifications that I posted above is accurate.

on a normal day, my cpu idles at 49 c, and at full load 54 c, is this ok?
Also, click here to see my cooler and cpu etc.. By the way I applied my coolermaster, a very little ammount of it to the cpu die which I cleaned with alcohol and swobs.. I spread it out so there was a very thin layer over the die, then I put this heat sink on http://homepage.ntlworld.com/o.kitson
What do you think? Is this ok? The idle temp is 49 c and the full load is 54.. The fan is silent, only 3200 rpm.... Is everything normal and ok? Thanks..

For the type of cooling you've got, those temps are fine... Bringing them a bit lower with some better cooling wouldn't hurt... But you're not going to hurt anything with those temps either. It was 108 degrees here yesterday, and my processor was running at full load, i didn't check the temps, but i'm sure it was somewhere in the 60's.... Once things start cooling down in the next few months, my temps will very rarely go above 45 even in full load situations.

Your very welcome. MVC-017F.JPG is that your finishing touches of thermal compound on the cpu ,if it is good job by the way nice pict of heatsink and fan would like to see a pict of your heatsink fan installed up n running those temps are good.

The picture with the cpu having thermal compound is the one at the bottom of the list, its called "with paste.jpg" The layer is thin.. What do you think? Yeh this is the one with the coolermaster paste on it
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/o.kitson/with%20paste.JPG
It might not look like it but the paste is covering the WHOLE top of the die... Well. tells me what yall think!

Looking at the pict it looks like you accomplish your goal and on your way to installing that beautiful heatsink and fan :D

Nah, as every system is different there is no set time when the temp will lock up the system. ( if it will at all) I have seen many diferent cases with many different temperatures.
Also you speak of slow downs??? Mabey with a Intel chip but most of the time AMD chips will keep plugn till fried or they freeze.

well believe it or not
that does happen with my system
i think it's a great feature ;) :D
that way without a Temp monitoring software i can FEEL if the CPU is going to hot or not, before the alarm goes off at 70c
and i set my PC to go into Sleep Mode if it goes to 75c, and TOTALLY OFF if the FAN is STOPs
:p
