what is that stuff radio shack sells as hscompound?

I was curious about the change by radio shack with their hscompound they used to have the stuff that I am familiar with the zinc oxide white heavily pigmented grease but on my last visit I got some which was no longer packaged in the foil tube but instead plastic when I started to use it the first thing I noticed is the stuff is not as pigmented and has a consistancy of acne treatment creme and it listed the contents as polysiloxane followed by zinc oxide the part number for this stuff is 276-1372 A I have been using it on my nephews pc because It has one of those orbs you have to twist off and this particular cpu is badly chipped and mutilated as a matter of fact it is astonishing that it works at all. Because of the cores condition I have it underclocked with 9x100 instead of 133 because it was unstable at 1.2 I believe the reduced amount of surface area on the core is the cause it is significant but hey it was in the name of progress

polysiloxane is a chemical bond in a silicone base personally I dont like the Radio Shack Thermal Compound I have used it in the past and it doesn't compare to other Thermal compounds out in the market. Your best bet is using Shin Etsu G-751 Thermal Compound, Nanotherm, or Coolermaster Premium Compound. I did not mention AS3(ARTIC SILVER 3) since you have a chipped core and would not take a chance using it.Your lucky that's it's still working.

I know I usually use gc type 44 but it was on short notice. I did once use conductive epoxy to fasten a heatsink to the 68030 in an old mac that I chipped from 25 to 33 it was a smt package and didnt have anything for attaching a hs worked till i gave it away

When you get a chance see if you can one of the thermal compounds that were suggested ,for now the radio shack will serve its purpose. By the way welcome to sysopt :t
