Counter-Strike Dead. Yes or No?

when ever the topic of 1st-Person-Shooter comes up, there are always those people who say : CS is the only good game, everything else sucks. Do you think CS is all that great?

Working at a video game store, i must say i have played a lot of video games. None have capitvated me as long or as much as Counter-Strike. Age of Empires II was up there however, Nonetheless, both games are very deep. It's what most all games lack these days. They are made for eye candy rather than depth and playability.

Counter Strike is dieing out yes, as the multiplyaer FPS are returning to their "doom" liek roots with ut2k3 and whatnot, i used to moderate on a friends fairly large CS clan forum, i went back to look the other day and there has yet to be a post since one i made about 3 weeks... tells you the stae of the game really... the masses have moved on while a few hardcore remain :(

Thats all to do with the tilebased rendering system HL uses or suminks... theres no "filling" between surfaces so you can hack to make the surfaces no existent physically if you will thu sallowiong ppl to see and shoot thru em... the cheating small d**ked g!mps :p

some good game with depth are- mohaa(with the expansion, it will last for a LONG time), UT, RTCW, BF1942, and all of those other multiplayer games that are unlimited fun. you can mod like crazy for 'em, and they never get stale:)

The game was fun and popular when it first caem out about 2-3 years ago, now it's only newbies play it. The game could survive longer if it had been updated to the future software and demands of the players. The game engine is long over due and the physics of the game getting quit boring. People are moving on to new games like MOHAA and better looking games like UT2003.

I still play CS like crazy. In fact, my three roommates play it in addition to at least 6 or 7 others on my floor. Enough that we made a small clan. Look out for CS: Condition Zero. New single player included in addition to new weapons and a touched up engine. It's gonna be h0t.

If only each game/round lasted longer CS could be a superb game - even with it's o so old engine. There needs to be serious updating done to hold my attention these days - it remains a great online experience tho'

Haven't played CS since the UT2003 demo came out, and not because I sucked at it, either. Now that America's Army is patched up, I play that when I need a dose of realism. :p

All I can say is that, EA certianly seems to be making lots of money. With mohaa selling thousands, and BF1942 following in its footsteps, and the mohaa expansion.....Boy! Those guys are rich.

but really, I'm finding mohaa the best multiplayer experiance out there, with BF1942 close behind.

UT2003 sucks, so far. with the mohaa expanson set coming out, it will be a tough battle. but I think that EA will prevail :D I wan't purchase UT2003 for a while

millions of people are still playing CS. All my friends in different countries worship CS. And dont forget that its still game of choice by the the CPL!!!

CS will never die, unless they will come up with CS2 based on DOOM3 engine (wouldnt that be cool :D )

I truly don't think CS can ever die. There are literally thousands upon thousands ov servers out there for games. People have fallen in love with it. It isn't the graphics that pull you into the game... it's the gameplay. How often do you find a game that just plain has incredible gameplay? One that doesn't rely on some sort of incredible game engine to use as a crutch to support the game due to a lack in content? Think about what is your all-time favorite game console. Personally, none will ever captivate me nearly as much as the orgiginal Nintendo with games like Excite Bike, Super Mario Bros., Contra, etc... CS has the intagibles. It's the stuff UT2003 can never hope to have.

i dont care what other people say, i will never go back to CS. the waiting times are too long, when i was last on it (version 1.1) everone cheated, and they all play a ****-****ed map called de_dust or de_dust2.

I think i will stick with my DoD :D

Hey, I'm not saying ya gotta go back. The game, most definitely, has come a good ways since it was originally released. The anti-cheating movement is huge right now and there are great advances in how to stop it. Obviously, you just judged the game a bit early, but oh well. ANd you know, there is a filter so you can pick a map you like and search for only servers that play on that map. ;) Ya don't have to play on the craptastical dust maps. They're just for the noobs anyways.

Also, I have never experienced long wait times while playing CS. Not while on a respectable internet connection at least. Just try to find a server near you. Maybe then you'll get better ping.

its not the ping im talking about :D its the 'after you die' period... so many noobies still play it and camp in their respawn its so sad...

and i played from beta 6 where there was no cheating to version 1.1 and it was cheating galore, i got sick and uninstalled it

then i found my new love called DoD.

I myself haven't personally played it, but I watch my 2nd youngest brother play it and man, he can rack up the kills.
And it isn't from cheating either. He's just obsessed with it.
He's starting to get tired of it though because there isn't as much challenge anymore, too many newbies.

I think the CS movement will still be around for awhile, but it will pass just like QA III.

biggie is correct.. this is totally unlike DOD where there is far more teamwork (if you find a server with teamplayers...) and are so many tactics to use, and the maps are usually bigger than CS ones as well :D

I've always played CS for almost 2 years now, not long after the 1.0 retail was released. I got my girlfriend into it last year around Christmas, and she's **** near one of the best people I play with/against! I'd take her as a teammate over 14 top-rated "net-thugs" anyday.

Also, I've decided to go back to hosting my own server - teamx.gotdns.com:27015 (server will be back up around 5-6:00 PM EST, power outages due to thunderstorms and I'm at work :eek: )

It's been improved significantly, although the lag when coming down from a jump to forwards motion renders you sniper-fodder.

I liked what I read earlier (and sorry I forgot who said it!), but CS is imbued with great gameplay. You can play it almost indefinitely, because the graphics are decent but not system-choking, the physics are **** near real, and the teamplay is outstanding.

So I get a solid 100FPS in any situation, and down to 75-80 in multi-smoke grenades. Big whoop. Most of the community gets that now, whih makes it more enjoyable by all.

MOHAA is one hell of a game, I love it. I'll check out the expansion when I can. However, when it comes down to meeting up with a few friends, shooting people in the face, and then laughing about it the next day while at work, CS fits the bill like no other!

That's my 2 cents (plus service fees) :r

I have the demo version I D/Led off Nvidia.com (America's Army). It's realistic, but seems almost like a draft tool - you like it, therefore you're a candidate for the upcoming war on Iraq (if you live in the States). I'm no fan of Hussein, but this is kinda low for them to do.

Ghost Recon I wasn't a fan of, but that's just my opinion.

ya know? thats kind of what everyone said about UT (original) IT had thousands upon thousands of servers, at least 1,000,000,000 mods, skins, and levels. with a kicka** level editor, and kicka** gameplay, it ruled the universe for about 4 years. and now, for the most part, ITS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CS WILL die, and there is nothing you obsessed little CS demons can do about it:p

Uhm... a bunch of us still play the original UT, because you don't need to have an UBER-system to play it, just about 8-16MB of video RAM gets you by...

UT is still played at a rather large rate in a lot of medium-sized LANs... the game that is dying out rather fast, surprisingly, is Quake 3.

I have yet to go to a LAN in the last year where Q3 was the featured game, or was even played for more than 20 minutes.

Shockingly, the game of choice at the last 2 LANs we've hit in the last 4 months was CS :eek:

BTW America Army is a full release game
is not a Demo

to get to the next levels, you need to finish succesfully the previous levels

once you reach the higher and harder levels the games becomes real good

As PC zone concluded:

To play unreal tournamnet competetively online, you can be average and still maintain respectable scores... to play quake 3 you gotta be very good or you will be EATEN

Its a game where you MUST be good to survive and this scares off a lot of ppl who keep getting seven bells of s**t kicked out of em in their first few games, but if you persevere its the ultimate Multiplayer experience, closely seconded by UT2k3 :D

It may die, but for now I'm still enjoying it. There's something to be said for practicing 2 v 6-8 God-bots just to make sure your reflexes and instant-aiming accuracy are up there. Then, connect to a "pub" or a friend's server and wait for the accusations of cheating :p
