P2B AGP Asus Mainboard running as a Pentium 2 333MHZ
Is there a feature in the bios so that when I shut down windows xp that the computer shuts off so I don't get a message "It is now safe to turn off your computer"

Look in Control Panel > Power Options > APM. Enable APM.

Or, maybe Power Managment in BIOS was disabled when you installed the OS.
Check it out. If you find it's disabled, and if Bipolar Bill's suggestion doesn't work, then the only way to fix it is to enable the option in BIOS and reinstall the OS.

How did you Insall Windows?
do what Bill said
see if that option is enabled yet
Also make sure APM is enabled in the BIOS
before you install Windoze, else it wont detect it :t

Not quite true , AllGamer, I had an older system that had APM enabled prior to a clean XPpro install, and XP did not set APM on. Had to do it manually as BPB explained. I guess XP is'nt perfect after all.

I know there is a setting in the registry that allows you to change how XP behaves when you turn off the computer (assuming the motherboard can support the soft off feature). But, I dont know where it is located. Maybe someone else does?

that's Always the case
what i was saying is that if your APM is dissabled in the BIOS
then Win installs will not even see them
if you turn it ON in the BIOS, then Win Installs will just GIVE you the option to ENABLE it MANUALLY after the INSTALL :t

yes what you are talking about was used way back then in WinNT4
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/power/base/ispwrshutdownallowed.asp
Win2k/XP does that by default if used with ACPI or a compliant APM

I went into power management in the bios and there is a PWR button < 4 Secs : Soft Off
What should I select?

Is not that option
but i set it to Instant Off for my PC
the Option you are looking for is called
"Enabled APM : Yes/No"
or something that sounds alike
for example
"APM controlled by: User/Maximum/Minimum/Dissabled"

jakeconnor, open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.
What does it say under "Computer" in Device Manager (DEVMGMT.MSC)?
