I have two hard drives on my machine, both bootable to Win98. How do I transfer the boot information from one drive to another so that I can have the same desktop icons, software access etc?:confused:

Welcome to Sysopt!

Use a program like Norton Ghost or Maxblast to create a drive image of the drive you want to save settings on. They will both be identical copies.

I don't understand using same to same, why not make another user profile in one drive or OS.

I am having intermittent boot problems with one of the drives and have added an old drive from another PC. I want them both the same in case the bigger drive packs up altogether.

Will the programs mentioned just create identical boots or identical copies of the whole drive?

Not sure what you mean by "identical boots" but Ghost certainly can copy (clone) either partitions or entire drives. You can easily have your 2nd drive have exactly the same files and structure (and be an excellenrt backup) using Ghost. (My only experience with MaxBlast was with WinXP and it was a disaster. Win98 should be OK though.)

Both. Just double check the image drive after you make the image to make sure it is copied right and booting right. Also make sure the drive you are imaging to has as much space available as the drive you are copying from is using. I also back up critical files on cdr just for total piece of mind.

What I mean by identical boots is;

I have most of my software and data on the larger, problematic drive. I want to boot from the smaller, older drive but retain my access to the software without reinstalling it all.

Hope I am making sense.:)

A drive image is exactly that. Every sector is copied, including all software, drivers and registery settings. Just make sure you have enough room on the smaller drive for everything on the larger drive.
