I'm a novice when it comes to networking.

Yesterday i tried to help a friend of mine but ran into a password problem

Two PC's running XP PRO connected directly without a hub or switch. Computernames: PC01 and PC02.

Both PC's can see each other, and PC02 have no problem connecting to the internet via PC01. I can ping without problems.

Sharing files and folders is a different matter. When i search for computers on the network in explorer, PC02 shows up, but when i doubleclik to connect, it ask for username and password. Where did that come from ??

I have shared all filers and folders on both PC's

There are only on user on each PC, and i never entered a password when installing XP.

???????????????

I'm at work now, so i can't check - but there isn't any password at logon. I guess that means no password to find in the user account, or...?

You must add the respective user accounts with password to the opposite PC or log on to each PC with the same username and password.
