Just bought a top of the range IIyama 19" VM454 and yes the picture is quite good but am having the following problems and was admittedly expecting a bit better. Have experienced the IIyama customer service which was excellent and had the first monitor swapped out fairly quickly but now the second one has exactly the same problems, what to do?
The Problems:
I find the OSD controls take a bit of getting used to but no amount of messing around was able to solve the problems with the monitor which i had not experienced before with any other monitor. One thing I am finding is that it is proving impossibe trying to square up the image and getting it spot on.
Looking closely I can see a very slight shimmering similar to what you might get if you placed a mobile phone above or near a monitor but alot less discernable, this seems to disappear when the refresh rate is reduced from 85 to 75hz. I use 85hz as find the picture is alot more solid than 75 which for me produces discernable flicker. I have removed every possible cause of interference such as phones, speakers, cordless devices. I should say the resolution I use is 1280x1024 and sometimes a little higher.
Characters on the peripherary or corners appear slightly fuzzy when compared with text in the middle of the window which appears fairly sharp.
Very slight vertical distortion which I am noticing at the bottom right of the screen. This is apparent as window borders seem to bend ever so slightly and no amount of twiddling with the pin-cushion, pin balance or trapezoid settings can get rid of this.
I have to admit that I am pretty fussy and demanding when it comes to monitors and have a pretty sharp eye which is why i am went for what I thought was the best money could buy. I am beginning to think that finding a perfect 19" monitor could be alot more difficult than a 17" which is what I had before. I remember once reading that manufacturers cannot produce perfect monitors which is why we have the OSD controls to do the best we can!
Is there any software out there where I can actually test whether my monitor is performing as it should or shouldn't as I believe is happening here. Or do I ask for my money back and go elsewhere.
Many Thanks
Rex
