Athlon 1600+ AGOIA week 21(unlocked)
MSI KT3 Ultra 2(no raid)
256 Mb Crucial ddr 2100, cl 2.5
Smart and Silent Volcano 9
Artic Silver 3

I want to hit 1.8 ghz without risking damage to the system, is it possible?

Getting another 400MHz ? I seriously doubt it, but you can still try.
If your mobo can do 166MHz FSB, then you can set your RAM to run at CAS3, and then maybe you'll have ~1.75GHz with the same multiplier.

bah, you think I could atleast get it to 166 mhz synchonis bus for more memory bandwith? I could lower the multi too, and after 166 the divider kicks in and puts eveything but memory bus back in spec. More memory bandwith=good

Assuming you have 0.18 micron XP...... not very far. I would suggest lowering the multiplyer and pump your fsb first. Keep in mind your agp settings as this could have an adverse affect. After that, bump the multiplyer up slowly and watch your voltage. The original XP Athlon design isn't as overclock friendly as typical AMD products so don't get your hopes up. Also, do at your own risk!

wtf I got this processor becuase I heard it was cheap and an excellent overclocker, was I lied to? I got it from newegg becuase I heard they sold good steppings, I thought you could take one of these up to 1.8ghz :(

what voltage do you have the core at?

You may have good luck with it. Just go slow, add voltage when needed, and keep your expectations low. I wouldn't blame Newegg as the products they sell are generally decent. You probably have one of the first revisions in the XP line so you should expect some restrictions. I'm trying to find an 1800 on 0.13 micron. They have excellent overclockabiltity but of course, it depends on the batch.

wait a min, are you saying the agoia is a bad stepping?

From what I've read, the XP 1600+ AGOIA Y has excellent OC potential. I've seen it as high as 10.5 X 173 ( 1820:eek:MHz) over at amdmb forum, EPoX section. I have the same stepping, also from newegg ($55), just haven't unlocked it yet.

Now thats what I wanted to hear :D :D :D lol.

and fyi, I havent even put the comp together yet becuase it still needs a few parts to run. I just looks at the processor and it said AGOIA week 21 I don't remember seeying a "y" though. Is the non Y version any good?

Actually there might have been a y.....but those dang letters are so tiny.

In otherwords I don't have a core voltage yet.....

You may also want to try 12.5 x 146 but when adding voltage go slow up to 1.9

kt3 ultra 2 only goes to 1.8 volts methinks, is that enough?

Just curious to see how far you can overclock once you get your parts.
