Does anyone have any advice on how to center the monitor viewport in Glide games? I use SciTech Display Doctor to center my Win98 desktop, but certain Glide games come in way off (2"-3") center when the game runs, so I have to adjust back and forth.

You know, I shouldn't even be replying to your question because I haven't a clue about Glide drivers or have I ever owned a 3dfx based cared.

But maybe some light can be shed anyhow.

The monitor "viewport" is off centered from one game to the next because the monitor is receiving a different signal frequency from the glide driver for that game. It could be the different resolutions you are playing the games at. It could be the refresh rate. However, if the refresh rate is at the same frequency, the horizontal signal may be slightly different causing a uncentered image.

Just for reference, under DirectX, there is a user override setting for refresh rates. This forces any game/app making Dx calls to use the refresh rate you selected for all resolutions. This helps keep a uniform "viewport" across the board at all resolutions.

Setting the adapter's refresh rate to a single frequency can also help. But this is dependent on how well the monitor's refresh rate matches the adapters.

There may be a corresponding glide setting to Dx's override setting. Or perhaps the SciTech soft is interfering with windows attempt to control the refresh rates in some instances...

Sorry I have not answered the basic question.

When playing a 3d type game or just using DOS, the Windows settings no longer apply. Just use your monitors controls to place the screen correctly, when you drop out of the game, Windows will reset everything to where it was. The next time you start a game, it should revert back to whatever settings you had last time in the game.

Windows and DOS use different settings as do some games using the 3d card. The monitor will remember them if you set them up.

I hope that made sense.
