Well i have a MSI ti4200 128 ddr and works very well. Today i've overclocked it to ti4400 speeds easily :) . Still working on what this card can achieve.
I would go for this card, plus you get lots of software and games.

Most Gainward cards overclock like DEMONS.

Yeah gainward cards O/C very good, but the second you go over they are gone. I oreded a gainward geforce 2 ti that I had overclocked to almost the highest it could go. Then I went back and just bumped it up one more notch and it went bye bye. I sent it back to newegg saying that it was DOA.:D

I'm pretty much a newb as for vid card overclocking. How easy is it to burn? Or what should I expect with my MSI ti4200, without adding any coolling? I currently have it at 275/501.
Any info is appreciated

it's very easy to burn your card out....Make sure to burn your card in SLOWLY. What I mean, is up the settings by 1-2%, and then play games for a couple of hours ~ do this for a couple of days. Then up the settings again by a notch or two, rinse and repeat.
I just burnt out a GeForce4 4400 and threw $200 away:(

MSI makes good cards, id definitley get the 128mb card for future-proof ness, what with newer games needing more than 64mb of texture room...
If your gonna be overclocking MSI may not be for you, im not sure...basically shop about for a card with as low a ram timing as possible... i think the MSI's com ewith 3.6ns, but there are 3.3ns cards about..
...oh yeah and the 9700 is over kill, and whatsmore its Ati - yeuch :x

Moderation and proper cooling are key elements to overclocking.

Theyre good cards, but ive had bad experience with em in the past... as such i always consider other options before lookign to ATi, i hear they are much improved nowadays though...

Well i put back the settings to normal for now.
I was upping the core and mem by 5, then tested it with games and 3dmark2001se. But my mistake, well from what i understand is I shouldn't do this withing one day.
What can I expect with no extra coolling? How much can I up it, for example, within a day.
Another option is maybe wait till I actually need to oc this baby. I should actually be working more on oc'ing my cpu (t-bird 1.33). Its holding me back a bit with that gf4.

Well pete my MSI 64mb gf4ti4200 will do up to 620mhz RAm and at the moment i have the core at 275 although im sure it will go higher... just havent seen the need to push it, and its also the more succeptible to damange... id say you could get 300/600 no problems if you go about it properly :)

So what would be a general rule? 5 core, 10 mem boost per day? Even more perhaps?
morpheus kain
09-22-2002, 04:01 PM
U can do it in one day. Just bump it 4 core and 8 mem. Play a game for a while, and then bump it again. You'll get graphical errors before it becomes damaged. If you see weird dots or out of place polygons then your pushing it too far.

Ok thanks for clearing that up a bit. Yeah thats what i did. I was upping 5 core, 10 mem then tested it with games, then i repeated that.

Its a good idea to use two or three games rather than just one though, as some get visual artifacts where others dont :(

Try Q3 and then UT2K3 since they are both very finicky. If you do this then you should have no problem. I would suggest a Crystal Orb from Thermaltake though, as they are VERY good GPU coolers.

Max payne is also very good at graphically corrupting under overclocking...

I have a Visiontek GF3 ti500, stock speed - 240 and mem 500mhz. I upped it to 260 and 560 straight up since I have read so many reviews that this was the "stable speed". I have not had a problem with it yet for about a week. Should I do the burn in you guys suggested by raising the mhz little by little at a time? I am asking because I do not have a warranty on this card!

This is the card I'm going to pick up next - The Albatron GF4 Ti4200P Turbo.
Judging from the testing, this should be a killer (if not the ultimate) o/c'er in the 4200 class. Hits 309/693 easily - faster than a 4600 in nearly all tests, and rock solid.
A cool thing about the card:
- Copper heatsink. Nice touch - plus it looks cool on a blue pcb.
A cooler thing about this card:
- 8 layer PCB - like those found in the 4400 and 4600.
The coolest thing about this card:
- 128MB of 3.3ns BGA DDR RAM - yup, the same as the awesome Gainward 64MB version.
The card runs about $185, which I know is a bit pricey for a 4200, but if you can pull 4600+ speeds out of it, still have stability and awesome image quality, I think we can all agree -- Nuff said.
So, without further adieu, here is the linkage to the review:

and the link to the Albatron home page:
Albatron Goodness (http://www.albatron.com.tw/)
Oh yeah - it's worth noting that the 64MB versions of the 4200 use faster RAM than the 128mb versions. Because of this, the 64MB version has been a little more sought after in my circle of geeks. The 64MB version uses 3.3ns clocked at 500MHz and the 128MB version uses 4ns clocked at 444MHz. Both are "out of the box" speeds. Core speed on both is 250MHz by default.
I've been waiting for someone to build a 128MB card with fast RAM on it. Looks like the wait is finally over. :D

You might want to consider the Leadtek Ti4200. I have had a Leadtek Ti4400 128MB ram for 6 months and apart from very high performance you get that absolutely HUGE heatsink and 2 fans built in as standard. The heatsink covers both sides of the graphics board. Heat from the GPU and the memory chips are all handled by the one heasink/fans. Just saves trying to fiddle around maybe fitting extras yourself which might void your warranty. Better check that the Ti4200 does have the same heatsink as mine before you buy though :)
Have had it clocked above Ti4600 defaults but just run it at stock as no game pushes it , for now anyway. Some Leadtek Ti4400 boards apparently have hit 320MHz GPU and 700MHz ram. No idea the speed of the ram chips unfortunately as the heatsink covers em up.
Worth a look anyway. As for the MSI boards they seem to get great reviews.
If interested in 3d marks :- 9500 default and 10200 clocked(310/650) on my XP1800(default)
