Mafia, GTA3, Battlefield 1942 lockup

Anyone have a similar configuration and getting lockups during games which results in a high pitched noise? Im not to sure but after reading many forums and my own educated guess, I think its win xp with audigy that just dont mix since when it locks up it makes this very annoying sound. If anyone found a fix, you will definitely make my day.

Now Im trying to play mafia, Ive played different games at 1024 x 768 32 bit resolutions on my 32mb gf2 mx which was a tad choppy but ran fine. Dont tell me that this card cannot handle this resolution?! Im pretty sure it does without resorting to lowering fsb speeds etc. I have it OC'd at 260 and 560 memory and when I start up mafia, the **** game keeps running so choppy especially the intro. If anyone can help please, I payed $120 to upgrade my gfx card but I have gotten nothing but headaches since I bought it and now I cant return it.

Last thing, I tried to run 3dmark 2001 SE at 1024 x 768 32bit and it just froze on me at random, usually during the nature scene

when you get lockups with high pitch noise it does mean your sound card is not sharing IRQ happily with another device.

and i noticed you have 2 video devices on the same IRQ channel

the best solution for you to stop all this bugs

is to install Windows in STANDARD PC mode

then you can manually set which IRQ you want for what device

I have reinstalled with no luck, I really do not want to either again because I have alot of important stuff on pc and i heard disabling acpi without reinstalling windows is very bad. Any more ideas? thx

but did you actually select

STANDARD PC

by hitting the [F5] key?

re-installing does not mean Formatting

re-installing will upgrade your current Windoze to use the new settings, that''s all

nothing will be lost.

as for the Turning off ACPI without re-installing

the only feature you miss that people claims bad

are the double entries for some devices

and the APM feature is turned off

but by re-installing, APM is enabled, and no double listing occurs

so I pop in the cd and go to the install screen? I never saw a standard pc option, do you mean f6 for the raid option

You have to hit [F5] when you see that message, then is when you get the choice to select "STANDARD PC"

Yeah do the repair instyall but set the Hal to standard PC... you may need to reinstall the odd driver at restart but it shouldnt be too much chew :)

Make sure your 1st choice is INSTALL
then 2nd choice Re-Pair

these steps are after the HIT F5 on the Hit F6 screen

Or in my case if you got donkey RAID Drivers hit F5 and F6 alternatley trying to cretae a simple yet catchy tune...

Ok, that didnt solve the problem. I reset the clock speed to stock on the ti500 cause I thought it might be a heat issue but when I ran 3dmark 2001, it froze on me during the nature scene which it always does. Any more suggestions?

I think mafia's better than gta3, it so far the best game Ive played, the whole theme and gameplay is excellent. The gfx are amazing and the map of the city is just huge, too bad I cant play it without iti crashing on me every 10 minutes!
