I am thinkin bout building my first cpu, and was lookin for advice on building, components, etc. Here's what I got so far.

Motherboard:Asus A7V8X- $130 from http://www.beatprice.com/bp2/bp_product.asp?id=26&cat=4

CPU: Athlon XP 2400+ - $200 from http://www.cbwnet.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_23_26&products_id=4707

Drive(s): http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=294251 - for $100

Ram: 512mb PC3200 DDR - $190 from http://www.hardcorecooling.us/product.asp?0=200&1=201&3=216

Hard Drive: Western Digital 120gb 7200 rpm - $160 from http://avlogic.com/product.cgi?code=19009706

Graphics Card:

Sound Card:

Case: http://www.dumpcomputers.com/neonlight.html# - $100

Power Supply:

I know you need cooling fans and some other stuff, but I am unsure which ones. There are like millions of cpu and case cooling fans. Also, which power supply, there are millions of those as well. Graphics card, Geforce4 ti 4200 or Geforce3 Ti 500? I cant decide, the 4 is only 19 bucks more than the 3, but is the 3 better? What other things do I need that I am missing, cables, pin connectors, etc. Thanks, Jason

Also, about the ram, I know I have it filled in but still had a question. The mboard supports 4 dimms of pc2700 ddr, and 2 dimms of pc3200 ddr. Should I go pc3200 or pc2700, and do you know some good places to get some! jason

Power Supply: Enermax 300w (http://www.buyaib.com/en30egatser.html) Is what I used for the last 3 comps i've made.

Graphics Card: I'd go for the G4 Ti4200 as per it is slightly faster than the G3...it's all really a matter of $$.

Sound Card: I got a sound blaster Audigy for my one rig because I had monster speakers, but if you don't, just get a plain old card for like $20-$40 IMO.

I can't say anything about your hardware choices. However I highly suggest you try to order most of the parts from the same place, and make sure that place is reputable. I HIGHLY recommend www.newegg.com. They have great prices, ALOT of brands/models, have user reviews, and great customer service. Ordering from many places will have you waiting as all your packages come in from different places, instead of waiting for the big box (or two) from a single place to arrive on one day.

I'd also suggest trying to pick up the monitor and case locally if you can as you will save quite a bit in shipping on the large/heavy items like that.

Have fun!
