Something weird just happened

I was downloading a couple songs, and looking around on this site. I turned to watch something on TV, and when I looked back at my monitor, the display was all wacked out.
The whole screen was a light gray, with slightly darker vertical lines all across. The pointer was a black 2x2 square. I ended up having to reset the system.
Does anyone have an idea what would cause such behavior?

Abit kt7
Duron 700
Diamond Viper II AGP
128 meg Crucial ram
Sound Blaster Live Value
Proview 15" monitor

I think almost the EXACT same thing happened to me yesterday!!!

I was at the Internet Gaming Zone in a Rogue Spear chat, getting ready to play. All of the sudden, my screen turns are darker purplish/gray. I could still type, etc. I freaked, to say the least.

I simply turned off monitor and back on again.

it could be not enough memory (256 is much better), or an irq conflict, or a problem with vga cable or/and connector......
