UT2003
56k - will take around a night to d/l the demo, in the meantime what kind of REALISTIC specs are needed.
I want to run at 1024 x 768 with everything on full detail
My system
PIII 1 Ghz
512 pc100 RAM
GeForce 4 Ti 4400
7200 RMP HD
All the other typical goodies (CD-RW, 4.1 speakers...)
Will UT run at full bore with this???

That's more than good enough
i was running it also at 1024 x 768 x 32bit color
with every single feacture for Eye Candy enabled, and it was smooooth, it's simply sweet
and i have a lesser CPU/Vid

Mine runs like ****.
1.4Ghz Athlon Tbird
256mb pc2700
80gb wd 7200rom 8mb
Geforce4ti4200 128mb
Win2k Adv Server
Soyo Dragon Lite Kt33
at 1600x1200 it's kinda choppy..playable..but choppy. at 800x600 it's good. even at 1280x1024 ( i think that's the resolution!) it's purdy choppy, but playable. is this normal? perhaps tweaking and overclocking is in order..i get 9200 on 3dmark. (My scores used to be ~10k. me no no what happened to that :()

oops my mistake..i left some programs running that i didn't notice (virus scan and firewall). I don't think the firewall caused the decrease...just the virus prog. So ya, now im playing at 1600x1200 max settings just fine. UT2k3 is an overall good game but it is a little stale.

they were just trying to have fun with it on their own first
they didn't want to release it until they got bored of playing with it on their own little office LAN

Your system will be able to play it just fine... Your CPU can be somewhat of a bottleneck, espically at the maximum detail settings and high resolutions... My system specs are:
EPoX 8K3A+ (KT333)
Athlon XP 1700+ (OCed to 139fsb)
512MB PC2100 DDR
GF4 Ti4400 (OCed to 280/600)
When I run the game at 1600x1200x32 with all the other settings at maximum, my frame rates on the outdoor maps can get as low as 15fps when there is a lot of action going on. It usually hovers around 25fps though with moderate action.

Correction: Instead of using "Hardware +EAX" sound, I changed to just "Hardware" and my frame rate very rarly drops below 30fps. Its in the high 30's to low/mid 40's with light to moderate action, and drops down to about 30 during the heavy fights.

it's rather logical the additional EAX uses extra processing power for the CPU to handle the Audio requests
hardware only, will no require extra processing off the cpu :t

Actually setting it to software results in better FPS's than any kind of hardware setting for the sound

this is yet still one thing that i can't quite get, it aint quite logical
hardware off load is suppose to make the cpu work better, but instead it seems like it's adding more load back to the cpu instead of un-loading from it :x

Indeed - i found it quite odd at first... but hey i can live with better FPS's anyday :D

Is there any difference in sound quality between hardware and software???

hardware sounds better, and more 3D if EAX is enabled
software sounds like 2 speaker even with sound comming out of 4

I think i'll stick with just hardware sound in that case... 30-45fps is good enough for me espically at maximum settings running at 1600x1200.
